I got my braces off 3 years ago and i havent worn my retainer since august/september 2005. Now my bottom tooth is turning in a bit and my canine looks like it it sticking out a bit...luckily they are not very noticeable. If i start wearing my retainer, will it help fix it?
The reason why i stopped wearing my retainer is b/c it was uncomfortable and a hassle. Should I ak my orthodontist about a clear retainer? Will I need braces again? Thanks

You might want to ask your orthodontist about it before your teeth moves back any worse. I ended up having to get braces again but he might just do another mouth mold and make you buy another retainer. Its been three years ago since you wore the retainer you have now and theres no point in starting back because now it wont fit. If you start back trying to wear it it will make your teeth worse. Ask your orthodontist about the retainer that looks like invisalign. Its clear and it fits right over your teeth. They might be more comfortable to you then the clamp on one made with all that metal.

I've had braces for three years and for two years I have been using a clear hard plastic retainer that fits right on top of my teeth. All retainers can be uncomfortable, so there isn't much you can do about it. I would say the best thing you can do is put that retainer you have on and try to use leave it on at least a few hours a day and see if you can notice some change. (Leave it on at night to avoid having to take it off and on during the day!) Hopefully, it can still make some corrections in the teeth that have shifted. If you go back to your ortho, they will probably suggest getting braces again. I have a best friend that hasn't worn a retainer in awhile because he lost it and then he had a gap between his front teeth - he had braces on again for another 1/2 year, and then retainers again! If you ask for a clear retainer, it might not work out because they have to make a mould from your current teeth, which is at the moment, not quite aligned properly.

USE THAT RETAINER!!!

Dude, did you wear your retainer after you ortho took you off the braces? Put your retainer on right away if you still have it cause your tooth will keep shifting if it's not corrected and you may need to go back to braces for a while. I'm sure that's the last thing you want to do- not only because of the discomfort, but the embarassment and the money you or your parents will have to spend. If you're lucky, your retainer will still fit. Wear it every night until it's back in place. Even if it has "moved back" in place, keep wearing it because your tooth will still be naturally loose is prone to shifting back.

you went through a couple years of having braces, so you should have worn your retainer or it would all be for nothing. i would wear the retainer so your teeth don't move anymore, but chances are it won't fix your misalligned teeth. call the ortho if they get worse though

and wear your retainer!!

my teeth moved a bit
and the retainers moved them back
