Pain meds are no more dangerous than any other med, when taken as prescribed.
Yes, different pain meds work in different ways in the brain. Also each person's makeup is different, so what works for me may not work for you.
Tell your doctor how you respond to these meds and ask if there is an alternative.

Well, this is kinda complicated but--hang in there and I'll try to explain. First of all, it depends on what type of pain you are experiencing. If this is something caused by an injury, etc. and is inflamed, an anti-inflammatory medication such as Motrin, Naprosin, Advil or Aleve may work better for you than a narcotic pain reliever. Next, if you are getting the generics of ANY of these narcotic pain killers (as I am)--beware! A good deal of them are just plain chalk pills---there's nothing in them! I know sooo well as I experience this quite often when I'm trying desperately to get myself out of pain due to advanced degenerative disc disease of the spine, and I swear, sometimes I can take 3 or 4 Lortabs (or, they are suppose to be), and if nothing else--I should get sick but, nothing happens and I'm still in pain! Give the anti-inflamatories a try, or if you can afford it--get the Name Brand of the medications prescribed by your doctor. Good luck to you.

The answers the others gave are good, however, your best bet is to ask the pharmacist or your doctor. Just because you do not take these meds often, it doesn't mean they are for you. you have to have your doctor find the right one for you. Sometimes even a pain med of lesser strength may help you more than a stronger one. Your body may be fighting the effects of that med. To make sure. just ask your doctor or pharmacist, you can't go wrong with them.

Hi there. First off I just like to start by saying be real careful with pain meds, they are very dangerous. Anyways though to answer your question many patients react alot differently to pain meds. Some people can never get benefit from them. They have to find other means of dealing with their pain. I think if you are really having problems maybe your family doctor can refer you to a pain clinic or something where they can teach you other forms of pain management.

HI, i have taken percoset and have two very different reactions to them, the first time, i was thrown a loop. i couldn't see two inches in front of me and couldn't read nor walk and had to take care of a new born-that was very interesting. my son is 4 btw and healthy, and the second time, i was very hyper.
its your bodys reaction to the meds. everytime you take them, your body reacts differently. if you have had life changing events, say babies, or just surgery, your body has had to adjust and well, some things that wouldn't have any affect on you before, could now, and vice versa.
best advice is to talk to your pharmacist, or go to walgreens or excrd(spelling?) and talk to them. they are normally very helpful and sometimes reg drs. just prescribe the meds, they don't know the drug interactions or anything.
my dr. didn't, i would have to look it up on the web before he didn't know that i could halucinate on a med. dumb dr.
