McAfee is trustworthy...Stopsign free scanner is questionable. Most of those "click here to scan your computer for problems" are either trying to sell you something eventually or they are actually loading problems onto your computer. To sell you something they ALWAYS find problems even if McAfee says you have none.

Run a virus scan with McAfee and do what it suggests with any issues.

A very good free spyware download is Spybot Search and Destroy...I recommend using it in addition to your McAfee.

Mcafee isn't all that great in my personal opinion. Thing is no one scanner can find everything. Best practice for me is to use one good antivirus (norton's 07) and one good anit-spyware (spyware doctor) for protection but use like 10 other scanners for cleaning. Trojan hunter is a good one for finding trojans. Leave the free crap alone they make things worse sometimes.

use the following anti spyware softwares
ad aware se personal + spy s&d (these are manual scanners)
avg free antispyware or windows defender (these are realtime scanners, hence choose any one)

You already have mcafee which includes online scanner, still you can use calmwin antivirus which does not include an realtime scanner, therefore you can use it as an additional antivirus program. Turn Mcafee off temperorily while running calmwin scan

I recommend using Spyware Terminator. It is among the best of the free programs out there and integrates anti-virus, too. http://www.spywareterminator.com
