My sister goes out on the road for the first time with her husband the truckdriver. At a very large truckstop she was confronted by another woman while passing in the restroom. She smiled and looked into my sisters face and told her that she had a sick mother. Our mother has a rare form of cancer that lies in the lining of her veins. This shocked my sister as there was no way she could have known her. She told her that mom was worse last year then got better, and now its come back, "is it cancer?" she asked, and told her that everything would be allright. She then proceded to tell her things about my sister that only her and God knew. When my sister asked how she knew, she told her that the Holy Spirit laid it upon her heart, but she hadn't used this gift in many years, then she told her that her daughter would also be fine. My neice is only 15 and preagnant. We have been raised very conservative Christians and want to believe, but how can this woman have this gift and not one of us?..

Perhaps a better question is Do you or your sister still have contact with this woman.

If so be a bit suspicious.

If not thank God for the blessing and encouragement.

It does seem that the Holy Spirit does give the "gift" of knowledge to some Christians. Why to others and not to us? Seems it is in the Sovereignty of God, He give which gifts He wishes to whom He chooses.

But also be well aware that there are other spirits.

Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits.

Why would this "word of knowledge" be spoken to your sister? Is it for ultimate good?

Hmmm, "very conservative Christians" and yet your niece is only 15 and pregnant?

It amazes me that you would receive such a wonderful gift of wisdom & faith from another child of God and then envy it and want it for yourself.

Be content. If everything is as you have described it, then you've been given a glimpse that most people never see or don't believe when they do see it. If this woman is for real, then you now know that 'everything will be all right'.

We each have gifts. Some wonderous and some sublime. Don't question why this woman has a gift that you don't. Discover your own gifts and use them as God wills.

There's no way to know if this is 100% true, but why not hope that it is? As for how this woman can have a gift you don't--why is it that some people have musical talent, some people have a way with words, some people have athletic ability? Everyone has got particular skills. Why *not* this woman?

This is one of the nine gifts called a "Word of Knowledge". In my view the most powerful. Weather it is real depends on the accuracy of course. There is always a purpose of edification, never something that will contradict the Bible. There are nutters out there saying all sorts of things but it does not discount the fact that this gift is real and powerful. Why her and not you? God needs a clean vessel, she needed it to give her faith, you would have dismissed it, just pick one - He knows though.

It's possible for God to do this. I've known people whom God has told things to that they would've never known on their own. As to why no one you would know would have this gift, well...God gives it to whom He pleases. However, you or anyone you know could be given this gift in the future. You just never know what God has in store for His people.

You can seek the gifts of the Spirit, too. In prayer and study. And just rely on God to do what He sees fit.

I pray this lady suffering with cancer will be comforted through this trial & that the Lord would heal her if it's His will.

God showed her and used her to help your sister and every one else around her to know that God is still on the throne and he still does talk to us just like in the Bible days,we just have to look and listen. He has worked with me and helped me also.By what your sister heard she felt stronger and had hope where there didn`t seem to be any.God bless.

God gives to each believer a different gift. I have a dear friend who has the gift of discernment like this and she is pretty accurate.

I had a similar experience. Shortly after we were married my wife was told by an old lady to be careful regarding her kidneys because if they caused problems it would be serious. 10 years later they failed and indirectly caused her death. I don't want to believe this sort of thing, but it happened.
