The best Long island is not made with sour mix.
Mix equal parts vodka, rum, gin, silver tequila, and triple sec.
Give it a twist of lime and a splash of coke (only enough for color) and you have it. Don't dilute it with something unnecessary like sour mix.

To make your own,
mix one part heavy sugar syrup (3 parts sugar, 2 parts water) with one part lemon juice, and add 2 egg whites per liter of mix.

The egg whites are optional, but will make the drinks slightly foamy. You may want to adjust the sugar/juice ratio to give the mix the right balance of sweetness and tartness.

the only way to go when you're trying to do something right like this in the world of spirits is to always go fresh and what I'm referring to is equal parts of fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice. you may want to add a tea spoon amount of simple syrup which is sugar dissolved in hot water depending on how sweet or tart you want your libation to be. be safe and enjoy!!
