i've heard that a woman doing male push-ups can hurt her ovaries. is this true?

That's a new one. No, tho' I'm not a physician or sports physiologist, I can say with certainty this won't happen. As mentioned above, they are very good for men and women. The only reason there are "women" and "men" pushups is that most women don't naturally have the upper body strength for full-blown pushups. But I've seen and known plenty of women who could do them and had no ill side-effects that I'm aware of.

probably not....push ups are very good for women and men and it's a pity many people dont do push ups....

How would that even happen? You're supporting yourself by your arm and chest muscles.
