I am nine years old and in the fourth grade. A lot of my friends are saying that they are 'dating' and 'going out with'...and I say "we are in the fourth grade for pete's sakes and shouldn't be dating till we are in college." my friends make fun of me....but i really do think that dating in the fourth grade is EWWWW and kind of gross. Am I really the "wierd one" here?
what can i say to them when they make fun of me?

the hardest thing u will find in life is having ur own beliefs, and standing by them against others. people will ridicule u, laugh, poke fun at u. just remember it take alot braver person to stand by his/her beliefs, than to conform to thiers.
tell them u don't need to date anyone to define who u r.
lol besides ur rt dating is EWWWWW . get good grades and go to college, there is plenty of time for EWWWWW dating.

You sound like a very smart and wonderful 9 year old. There is plenty of time for dating when you are grown. Right now is the time to act like a child and play and be as silly as you want. Children try to grow up too fast and once your childhood is gone you can never get it back.Think about this... How many happy grown ups do you see each day? WE are all pretty miserable because we have so many responsibilities and we can't just go out and have fun whenever we feel like it.

You are not weird. The majority of 4th graders are *NOT* dating. I bet when you get a little older, you are not going to want to wait until college to start dating but only time will tell. Let your friends continue to say that they are going out with so and so. I am sure that they are just trying to act older and when they grow up they are going to look back and realize how silly they were. If they make fun of you when you say that dating is "ewww" then just stop saying that and if they ask you why you aren't dating telling them that you are waiting for that special someone to come along (when ever you're ready to find that person).

No, you are NOT the "weird one" here. Lots of fourth graders like to say they are "dating" or "going out" when it really just amounts to feeling more important than the other kids in their grade because they are "sophisticated" enough to have a boyfriend/girlfriend. You shouldn't date until you are (a lot) older and mature enough to do it for the right reasons and not to feel better than others or older than you are.
When they make fun of you, unfortunately, there's not much you can do except ignore it because as far as I am concerned (and I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me) you are totally in the right here. G'luck!

no, youre not weird. actually, you're very smart. im proud of you. why would you want to worry about boys when you can have fun being a 9 year old? theres always time for dating. dating gets complicating. do it when youre ready instead of following the crowd.

Just know that your friends are probably not telling the truth (unless they have really bad parents), and avoid talking about dating to them. Don't let them know what you think about dating.

Your friends should think about their education rather than boys. You told them the right thing too. Don't let them bother you because you are not like them. Tell them this, "My date is with my parents who will teach me good morals". (smile)

You sound like my daughter and I would be proud of you.There is plenty of time for dating w hen you are at college .You are not weird at all. At this age its better to have good oldfashioned fun.Ignore their teasingStick to your guns.
