Yes - it is called sacrificial love. Strangely enough, and contrary to the direction of your question, it is only too much for those who see it, but choose not to risk itt..
A soldier giving his/her life for his country.
A mother birthing a child.
A dad practicing tough love on his only child.

yes. its called obsessiveness and as unfortunate as it is, most of us suffer from it. i say, better to care to much than to be cold and not care at all.
