It seems like on the statistically rare occasions somebody uses homeschooling as an excuse to isolate, abuse, molest, or otherwise harm their kids, everyone instantly piles on the bandwagon and says, "YOU SEE! HOMESCHOOLING IS BAD!!!" Whenever there's a kid who's a little different from the norm, it's automatically assumed that he's sheltered, miserable, and will never be able to lead a productive life. Whenever somebody knows one homeschooler who wants to try out school, they say, "YOU SEE? HOMESCHOOLERS HATE BEING HOMESCHOOLED!"
And yet...
Just about everybody's kids complain about school. People don't like it when they're in and they only talk about how broken it is while they're out. Every day, you hear about increased violence in schools. Yet nobody says, "YOU SEE! SCHOOL IS BAD!"
After Columbine, which was about as drastic and covered by the media as you could get, nobody said anything about stopping schooling.
Why are people such hypocrites about this?

Also, what do people mean when they say, "Homeschooled kids aren't normal?"
If I head down to my nearest public high school, there will be at least a thousand kids in there. Which, pray, are the normal ones?
I know that the real problem with all of this is that people try to paint schooling and homeschooling as one's the freaking garden of Eden and the other one's Buchenwald or something. They both have advantages and disadvantages.
For some people homeschooling sucks and others it rocks. For some people schooling sucks and others it rocks. Why do people care so much? If you don't like homeschooling, don't do it. Leave those of us who have made the other decision alone.
