It seems like on the statistically rare occasions somebody uses homeschooling as an excuse to isolate, abuse, molest, or otherwise harm their kids, everyone instantly piles on the bandwagon and says, "YOU SEE! HOMESCHOOLING IS BAD!!!" Whenever there's a kid who's a little different from the norm, it's automatically assumed that he's sheltered, miserable, and will never be able to lead a productive life. Whenever somebody knows one homeschooler who wants to try out school, they say, "YOU SEE? HOMESCHOOLERS HATE BEING HOMESCHOOLED!"

And yet...

Just about everybody's kids complain about school. People don't like it when they're in and they only talk about how broken it is while they're out. Every day, you hear about increased violence in schools. Yet nobody says, "YOU SEE! SCHOOL IS BAD!"

After Columbine, which was about as drastic and covered by the media as you could get, nobody said anything about stopping schooling.

Why are people such hypocrites about this?

Also, what do people mean when they say, "Homeschooled kids aren't normal?"

If I head down to my nearest public high school, there will be at least a thousand kids in there. Which, pray, are the normal ones?

I know that the real problem with all of this is that people try to paint schooling and homeschooling as one's the freaking garden of Eden and the other one's Buchenwald or something. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

For some people homeschooling sucks and others it rocks. For some people schooling sucks and others it rocks. Why do people care so much? If you don't like homeschooling, don't do it. Leave those of us who have made the other decision alone.

Yes, I wonder the same thing. People are practically blinded by their own hypocrisy. I wish I could make people see the lack of logic in what they're doing, but alas, only those who are willing to see their own mistaken thinking will actually be open enough to see it. Most aren't willing to consider the possibility that their thinking is skewed. (And yes, I am willing to consider the possibility that my thinking is skewed.)

Homeschooling is a lot more demanding on the child's indivudal skills because it is harder to get away without doing work. Strange as it may seem, it is easier to be lost when I teacher is right in front of you, than it is when you send things through the mail.

People are hypocrites because they fear what is different, and by admitting schools are flawed majorly, it is in someway a reflection upon them and their children.

On the same token, homeschooling can restrict contact with the outside world, but believe when I say that it really can be so better.

I was in a mainstream school, and was bullied to the point of suicidal depression. I move town and entered homeschooling, and I began to like myself again. It was a conscious decision to do that, but it is one that would not have happened had I stayed at a school.

I couldn't agree with you more and I cannot really explain why people do this. I suppose it's a natural reaction to what people don't understand.

My words to you would be just to grit your teeth and deal with the evil that can be and often is, people. Generally, they get better. I have not been home schooled, thus I cannot experience everything you are going through, but my family moves a lot and being the new kid every other year seems to be something close. Just remember, no matter how bad people seem, if you look hard enough, you will find good. I can't tell you where to find it, all I can do is reassure you that it exists.

Homeschooling is good. the kids come out smarter and normaly 2 or 3 grades ahead. there are some cases when kids shouldn't be homeschooled, like if their not being tought! They are sometimes said to be a little out of the norm cause they don't have peer pressure and they act like humans! Sometimes they don't know alot about music cause their not around lots of kids all day who give them music to listen too. It is one of the best ways to make sure your kids aren't getting into trouble too.

I have come to the conclusion [after 9 yrs of homeschooling] that the ONLY people who disagree with hsing are the ones who truly do not understand it. Frequently after being given the facts, they will agree that hsing is a good thing. Yes, I know there are a certain percentage of hsers who abuse or fail to teach their kids, but I am guessing there is a much higher percentage of ps teachers who abuse their students or do not teach. So when I say people need the true facts, I am referring to the facts about the majority of hsers.

I am home schooled and I feel what you are feeling. I hate it when other people say that homeschoolers are not normal. I agree with you that for some families home school is the best thing while for others public school works better.

First off you aren't asking a question if you want to vent about a subject why don't you just make a blog. Second who every said home schooling was bad or good. It seems like you are a little paranoid!
