That's a very wide general question but personally I consider Bianca in Noho one of my personal favorites. It's a good solid Italian and quite affordable. Have the mussels for appetizers, seafood pasta for main course and panna cotta for dessert. I brought some relatives there who have never had Italian food in their lives and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Beware because the portions are generous. Another place I want to recommend is Lavagna in the East Village. Also Italian/Mediterranean but with a somewhat more sophisticated menu and the price is also a little more. I hope this helps. Have fun.

Can your family afford to pay $300 per person for the best restaurant in New York? If not, you should reword your question to read looking for a good restaurant. What are the budget and neighborhood requirements? It's good that you've listed the things you're not interested in, but is that list complete? Would you all eat raw fish at a Japanese or Korean sushi restaurant? Would you all be happy with a very good restaurant in Chinatown? Are you more interested in the desserts than the food? Do you all like fish? Tell us more and we can help you better.

My ABSOLUTE favorite is :

La Grenouille. The best meal ever. Very romantic, too. The flowers, service and the cuisine will leave you all speechless! Jackie Kennedy was a regular here being she past away. You will not be sorry!
It is located in midtown on 52nd.

If you want other ideas, please post another question!

Bon Appetit!
