I'm tired for re-formating my hdd, re-install my winXp + all other installed software every +/- 6 moth.., this is because my winXP performance always down-n-down (sometimes have stop responding application for a long time) for that interval,

my regular installed software is only Ms.Office (full packages), an archieve for RAR and ZIP files, and a PDF Reader. I have no installed games software. My PC spec is: P4-3,2Ghz, RAM 1Gb, VGA128mb, HDD80Gb(two partition-40/40), DVD rom, Modem, and sound available of course.

I'm already try to:
- defrag, scandisk..(my hdd are still in healthy condition..)
- setting my virtual page files (win swap files) for a fix value (windows recommend me to 3gb-min and max).,
- change my a hdd,
- not installing any games..<--this one make me very sick!!
- clean up all trash files,
- pray to the god..hmmmppff..(maybe god have a hidden purpose for his matter..) For other information, my pc have internet connection (cookies&history always cleaned)

- are you using NTFS or FAT32 hdd format??

if one of your drive use FAT32 format, winXP need a very huges swap files. so my suggest is, convert your hdd drive to NTFS. you dont have to re-format your drive data, use external partition software such as, Partition Magic 8.0. to convert it.

- installing new antivirus software may protect you from virus or ad-aware or somekind like that, but remember, antivirus software is running in the background (every-single-second-access), so it would be make slower your system too.

- check that your firewall is installed correctly.

- you may have your cookies/histry net session cleared, but are you sure you dont have any offlines web pages saved on your disk?

- be carefull if you do some tweaking to your WinXP system, some service in winXP if it disabled may slow down your system performance too.

- scandisk? it just check your disk for error, or cross-linked-files. not making your system goes up.

- too many defrag are really unnecessary. trust me.

- do not stop your system restore point. it neccessary and usefull if someday your PC have a trouble.

- call me via email for any other question you may have.

- hope usefull. have a good day.

Clear System Restore Points for Performance

What about System Restore Points? By default, Windows XP creates a restore point after installing Windows XP, once every 10 hours that Windows XP is running, or every 24 hours. It also creates a restore point when you install a new program, or install an update to Windows XP. And you can manually create restore points at any time. You can end up with a number of restore point files, which can be large.

Have you tried a registry cleaner ?

1- a registry cleaner is a must.Whenever even u uninstall as program it leaves behind tons of registry keys, which in due course of time corrupt the registry.I highly recommend TUNE UP UTILITIES 2007( A QUICK TIP-DOWNLOAD IT FREE FROM TORRENT SITES).Also download other registry cleaners because not one is perfect, you will find several cregcleaners show several errors.Other good ones are AMUST REGCLEANER,ADVANCED SYSTEM OPTIMIZER( also download form torrent)

2- Without an antivirus you are not safe,it is ighly recommended to install bitdefender.(do not download from torrent) cuz they will blacklist it.Purchase a real one and it costs around 20$ this is the best cuz it takes very few system resources

3- Type msconfig and see which programs are executed at startup. There might be many trojans being actyivated at startup and thus you are screwed. There are also pretty useless items activated which are no required. For example install shield update, java update, real update. These can be done manually.uncheck the programs you may not need at startup. This is on e of the major causes of memory loss

4- There may be many programs in the startup which you may not have any idea of eg- dxtrans.exe,cftmon.exe .just type it in google and it will tell you whether this application is safe or not.If something dows not come up in google too, make a log file of current processes and submit to anyone specialized over the net.He will be able to detect exactly.

5- To optimize your windows xp performance there are many popular tips available online.A good one to start with is

Actually, your swap file should generally be set to 1.5-2 times the amount of physical ram in the system.

Windows XP just slows down over time due to imperfections in the operating system, in part because it has to support thousands and thousands of hardware devices and legacy software programs. Running a registry cleaner (like CCleaner) every once in a while helps.

abode windows 7 makes use of Ram extra effectively yet needs extra of it. as an celebration my computing gadget runs speedier on abode windows 7 than it does on XP( I easily have both put in and Vista and different stuff). yet this is because I easily have a good number of ram and a quad middle cpu. on your computing gadget, abode windows 7 received't run nicely because the specs are literally not strong sufficient. it truly is a mistake. Your perfect wager to improve computing gadget speed dramatically is to locate the XP reinstall disc and reinstall XP. it's going to make your computing gadget look like new. truthfully not nicely worth it. you will get a sparkling computer for $400 with a replica of abode windows 7 already put in.
