I'm sorry, I just want to point out that there is a guy in the religion section who believes that a man should be able to FORCE a woman to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term, and then the government should force her to pay him child support so he can raise the baby.

Does anyone else believe this is appropriate?

Oh, sure. It makes perfect sense to me that I can have sex with a guy and, if the condom breaks, he can FORCE me to have his baby and pay him money for the rest of his life.

Do you people really not realize that what you're proposing is only a step away from rape? It's enough to make a woman go lesbian - at least another woman can't get me pregnant and then make me her own personal incubator for the next nine months.

Thank goodness, sane people finally answered. Thanks, guys, because I was getting worried that this was a mainstream belief or something!

You know, I've given the whole "father's rights" issue a lot of thought. Obviously what that person proposes is wrong, but the conclusion I've come to is that the father of a fetus should simply have no rights at all.

It is the woman who spends nine months carrying the fetus, and in most cases of unwed parenting it is the women who bears a child and raises it mostly alone. That's not my opinion, that's statistics. If a woman does not object to abortion, and wishes to have one, it's not her problem if the father of the fetus doesn't like it. He should have thought of that before screwing around with someone he clearly didn't know very well.

It's really a no-win situation. There's no good answer. But you will never see me, personally, siding against a woman's right to do as she pleases with her own body.

If I plant a seed on someone else's property, I don't get to come back in a year and cut down the flowers.

Okay, I am anti-abortion, but not one of these raving crazies. By the way, not every christian or pro-lifer is a fundy. Anyways, my point......I actually really get what you're saying, I guess my belief and point would be that knowing you are the one who is going to have to carry that baby (and possibly pay child support), you should be taking every precaution under the sun to avoid dealing with an unwanted pregnancy. I guess it suprises me that it is deemed as appropriate to use abortion as a way to deal with a mistake, when the consequences of such a mistake has been drilled into our female minds since junior high. It's not like we don't know what happens when you get pregnant, or the options out there. I don't think it's just about FORCING a woman to do something, I think it's about trying to avoid such drastic (and just in MY opinion cruel) measures when the solution is so simple. I am not judging you personally, I guess to some people, myself included,, I just get saddened by the lack of respect for human life, weather it's just a "fetus" or not.......I think what is appropriate is that women need to realize that we've been carrying children since the dawn of time, and it doesn't look like that will be changing so own it, be proud of it, and be more responsible.

Well, is this really different from the general pro-life debate? If the government can step in and force you to carry a child, why not an individual?

You have to understand how these people think: your body is not your own. They have a consistent ideology, in other respects too.

I believe that you should have absolute freedom inside your personhood. It goes far beyond reproductive rights. Think it's a coincidence that the same politicians who want to tell you when you can have kids also think torture is ok? I don't -- I think they simply believe that everything belongs to them -- from your body to my body to the bodies of captured POW's.

I absolutely believe it's inappropriate. To quote from the OP who answered here in this question:

"now tell me...why should sexually irresponsible women be able to justify murder, or depriving a man of his child."

Now, am I crazy, or weren't BOTH parties irresponsible? Male and female share that much! And why shouldn't both suffer for their irresponsibility? Or do you somehow think it's okay to ge around impregnating women and paying no consequence?

Abortion is a bad thing, it has serious psychological consequences for the woman, and the man, and obviously birth control is the answer, but dam*, they're BOTH irresponsible, quit blaming women for everything!

I hate to say it, but it is a fair question, and there are men out there who would really like to have their children and would hate the thought that their child was killed through abortion. Guys do actually have feelings too.

I THINK you are referring to my post, stating that a woman should not be able to abort if the father is willing to do what's RIGHT, that is, to be a parent. I didn't say anything abut her having to pay child support, if she wants to give up her parental rights that is fine. And by the way, it is not HER body that she is aborting, it is the body of that precious innocent child. now tell me...why should sexually irresponsible women be able to justify murder, or depriving a man of his child.
