And I agree with the first 2 answers that if you can afford $200 more, an entry level dSLR camera is a much better buy. For most people, anyway.
The Canon S series with all its bells and whistles is still just a sluggish point & shoot camera. I upgraded to a dSLR from a similar Nikon model.

The S3 IS just came out less than a year ago. I owned it briefly, and was so very disappointed in it. I returned it and put a bit more money down and got the Nikon D50 instead. I hope that whenever they do release the S4 IS that they see to the significant amont of design flaws which existed in the S3. I put the thing down inside the camera bag I had for it, and the viewfinder came right off in the bag.

It really felt like a cheap piece of junk, I was so disappointed in Canon for it's design, especially when it's so rich with some great features!

The S3 IS just hit the market a few months ago. I didn't know they were working on the S4 but if they are it will probably be released next summer/fall.
Love my S2 IS! Saving my pennies for a Digital Rebel XTi.
