I am a 24 year old deputy and some girls are intimidated about the whole "cop" thing. I thought girls like a guy in uniform. I am athletic and considered good looking. Whats up?

In reference to what kind of cop I am, I made a deal with myself that I won't abuse my power, like the town cops I grew up seeing do. I also try and not take my job home with me. When I am off-duty, I am not "Deputy" I am me.

In reponse to Mr. Voodo:

I guess you've figured me out. I am stereotyped, characterized, standardized, classified, grouped, and always typical. Unfortunately, I can not figure you out. From birth you teach your children that I'm the boogeyman and then you're shocked when they identify with my traditional enemy, THE CRIMINAL. You accuse me of coddling juveniles until I catch your kid doing wrong.

You pride yourself on your polished manners, but think nothing of disrupting my meals with your troubles. You raise hell with the guy who cuts you off in traffic, but let me catch you doing the same thing and I'm picking on you. You know all the traffic laws, but you've never gotten a single ticket you deserved. You shout "FOUL!" if you see me driving too fast to an emergency call, but raise hell if I take more than ten seconds to respond to your call. You call it part of my job if someone strikes me, but it's police brutality if I strike back. You would not think of telling your dentist how to pull a badly-decayed tooth, or your doctor how to take out your appendix, but are always willing to give me a few pointers on the law. You talk to me in a manner that would assure a bloody nose from anyone else, but expect me to take it without batting an eye.

You cry "Something has got to be done about the crime!" but you can't be bothered with getting involved. You have no use for me at all, but of course it's O.K. if I change a flat for your wife, or deliver your child in the back seat of my radio car on the way to the hospital, or save your son's life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or work many hours looking for your lost daughter. So, Mr. Voodo, you stand there on your soapbox and rant and rave about the way I do my job, calling me every name in the book, but never stopping to think that your property, your family, or maybe even your life depends on me or one of my buddies.

Women don't want to get involved with law enforcement because a lot of them tend to have drinking problems and power issues. Also, they probably don't want to deal with the stress you bring home from the job.

Also, a lot of cops think they are better than everyone else just because they are in uniform and can carry a weapon. Women tend to not like cocky men.

If you ever notice, it is cool for a man to roleplay and be a cop during sex and what not, but it is a lot harder to be in a relationship with one.

Well Jeff, the stress will catch up to you. Statistics say law enforcement die 7 years earlier than the average male, due to stress of course, not on the job.

JEFF YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT SOCIETY ALWAYS FOCUSES ON THE BAD AND NOT THE GOOD...YOU NEVER HEAR ABOUT SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGES, ONLY THE INCREASING DIVORCE RATE...YOU ALWAYS HEAR ABOUT OUR SOLDIERS DYING IN IRAQ BUT YOU DON'T HEAR ABOUT ALL THE ONES THAT ARE SURVIVING...JUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO HATE COPS UNTIL THE END OF TIME...

A lot of girls do, but then again, a lot of girls do minor things that are still illegal nonetheless, drinking underage, smoking a little pot etc. and they may be intimidated by the fact that if they got involved with you, you could do something to them. You don't sound like that sort of person, but I would personally be a little intimidated by dating a cop. A lot of girls would date you, but would be afraid once they really got involved that if they do any little thing, getting drunk in public, lighting a joint in front of you, or even having family members that are always in trouble, would come back to haunt them if you got a little spiteful after the breakup. I know a lot of cops aren't like that, but some are. You just have to make it clear what your boundaries are, and that you're not there to abuse the power and harass people.

And even though I've been an outlaw sometimes too, Voodoo was still a hypocritical ******* for that answer.

Well it sort of depends on the guy and the kind of police officer... for example most cops give me the creeps not because of them but because they are always showing up or asking me things when whatever they are trying to accomplish has nothing to do with me. (You should have seen my hubby's birthday party a few years ago some fool ran off from the cops near my house and they were all over my lawn and land disrupting the party) On the other hand some are handy. A strange man followed me and a female coworker from one cleaning job to the next and really scared her. She called the cops and they showed up promptly to shoe the guy away. So I liked them and they weren't intimidating. The first story is about county level police and the second is about city ones. I can't even be within fifty feet of a statey without being nervous. :) I decided toadd some more just because I think you will get a kick out of it. My coworker was about 20 years old, slim with beautiful blonde hair. Our second job was cleaning a bank. After the cops got rid of the guy they came let us know. My coworker was still flustered from the whole thing and tried to ask them a question. She said it so fast and jumbled that it sounded like "do you need a spank?" The cops just looked at each other and one said "What?" and she repeated herself but it still came out "do you need a spank? I almost burst out laughing and the cops were smiling but they were really confused. In between giggles I said "What she is trying to say is do you use this bank?" The three of us almost died laughing but the worst part was my coworker never really knew what it sounded like she was saying until I told her after they left. :) And poopoo to voodoo.

the uniform thing is strickly from a sexual point of view just when your looking, and for me the way I view it is as far as a husband it would generally be a good find stability, probly not as much domestic or disfunctional crap, but at the same time a lot of people generally dont like cops yea when they need them but besides that its a hate thing I think a lot of people well all people have had bad experiences with cops at one point or another and just look at them all the same which is wrong or just cant understand anyone who thinks they have the right to do what they do on certain issues people feel they should be free to do you'll just have to find someone without any issues which you'll be way better off for anyways probly worth the wait, actually now that i've been through a lot of crap the idea sounds great, I remember once a cop did ask me out and ofcourse I was young and dumb but then because he was a cop for whatever reason I ruled him out completely and at the time the main reason was I like to smoke weed and didnt feel I could be myself or like it would be like bringing a threat around my group someone who could possibly hurt them type of attitude, anyways good luck Kim

Maybe younger girls feel intimidated. Myself, I think there is a good chance you are going to date someone who has a decent background, morals, etc. a good man. Of coarse there are those cops who are real a$$hole$ but you can't let them ruin it for the rest of them.

When looking for a girl, look for a emotionally mature woman. When you are chatting with her, help her to see you for the reasons that brought you into law enforcement, your morals, etc. Also be a gentleman. Open the doors, never walk ahead of her, stuff like that. Let her see you as a protector and someone who respects her. Lastly, learn a lot about sex b/c if you are in law enforcement, you have a reputation to live up too. Never know, that might be what gets you the first date.

Good luck! (Yes, I am dating someone in law enforcement.)

Intimated ? No. That is just your profession as any other person would choose their profession.

Personally, I find men in the field of law enforcement (police, FBI, detective etc) to be very sexy. Yet, I've also heard that women will purposefully stay away from seeking out a relationship with those in the field of law enforcement as the story goes that men as those are very intense, over bearing and stressed due to their profession...which does not carry over to healthy relationships with their sweetie. That's just the story amongst women out there anyway. Seems there is some logic there. But, intimidated? No.

The uniform is awesome but it all comes down to what kind of a cop you are (hopefully a good one not bad) the whole bringing the guns home kinda scares me and the thought of your job being so dangerous alot of people would worry about that but it depends more on your character and that you don't abuse the badge........Happy New Years

I'm married to a cop. I'm the one who asked HIM out because I was so turned on that he was a cop! I still love seeing him in uniform, and we've been married 6 1/2 years now! (together for 10 1/2.)

There are two kinds of cops.

1. The really good kind who try to uphold the law to the best of their ability, and help those who need someone.

2. The bullies who put on the uniform just so they can push people around.

Most cops and I've known a few, are egotistical maniacs. Power people. It takes a special kind of person to do that job,so that's why they are that way and all seem alike. So go find yourself a nice passive, subservient girl and you'll be fine. You are hitting on the wrong women that's all..
