Maybe the school has a newer version of Word than you do?

Try this:
Open your Internet Explorer browser.
Click File...Open
Cick the Browse button and go to the documnet on your computer, like C:/MyDocuments/SchoolPapar.doc
You will probably have to change the 'file types' at the bottom of the Browse pop up to 'All Files'
Pick the document you want then click OK
If it asks 'Open or Save?' select OPEN
Then click File>> Save as and save it as a Word Document to your desktop. See if your Word will open it now. If not, maybe you can work with it in the IE browser.
Good Luck.

Does your school have microsoft office installed on their computers? If not that's why you are getting the weird characters on the screen. In order to use those documents on the computers at school the school will have to install Microsoft Office. Or you will have to copy them to a wordpad document save them to another cd and open them at school that way.

If somebody grants a observe ( 2003 ) rfile on a Floppy ( as an instance) and in case you have already got observe 2007 put in on your workstation, then Microsoft observe 2007 will immediately convert it to the recent version and open it for you. yet while: If somebody grants a observe ( 2007 ) rfile on a Floppy ( as an instance) and in case you have already got observe 2003 put in on your workstation, then Microsoft observe 2003 won't immediately convert it to the recent version and open it for you. it rather is because of the fact observe 2007 being a extra recent and as much as date version, there will be too many stuff diverse in it then observe 2003. ultimate for you would be to get observe 2007 put in on your workstation. good success.
