I bought a book and I want to take photographs of it's content and post them online, is that illegal?

It is illegal unless it is for private use that is why they have Xerox machines in libraries.

In general the answer would be yes, it would be illegal. However, if you could provide more details about what/why you are posting online then maybe it wouldn't be. For instance, if you are only posting a small portion as part of a book review or something like that then it might be OK.

It is probably legal if the book is no longer in copyright. For example, you can find many books in soft-copy at the gutenberg website. They advise that copying books can only be done if they are out of copyright. The same may apply to photocopying. However, you might have to consult an attorney to be certain.

Yes, of course it is illegal! You CANNOT post the work of another person on a website.
You are violating the photographer's copyright.

i believe that it would be illegal although if you did site it correctly you may be fine. just to be safe, i would suggest not posting them, if you wanted to make photocopies and give them to people that's fine (as long as you're not selling these pages).
