would you believe in God in hope of eternal happiness, well if you die not believing and you find out there is a God,you would have to suffer the punishment of not believing, but if you die believing in God and there is no God you lose nothing, you get nothing. It is a sure thing bet to believe because you keep all your bases covered, right?

This is called "Pascal’s wager"

--How do you know you have picked the right religion? What if the Jews, Muslims, or Hindus are right? If the Hindus are right, then you are going to spend your next life as a worm or something.

--Isn't God going to realize I was just playing the odds, that deep down I didn't really believe?

--If god doesn't exist, did I lose a lifetime of things I could have done. All that swinging I did with my husband - wouldn't have been allowed. All the Sundays at the mall instead of church.
I lose a lifetime of experiences.

-- I can't MAKE myself believe something that is illogical. Can you MAKE yourself believe in Zeus or The Tooth Fairy?

I could go on and on really

Right but I don't think that's a very good reason to 'believe' in God. You should believe because it is in your heart and you truly love God. What should I do? Tell people I believe in God when I don't 100% have that belief? Should I talk to God and say, "I fully believe in you" even when I know it's not entirely true just so I can stay out of hell? It doesn't work that way. You can't fake it because if there is a God, he knows how we really feel. I don't like bananas but I could force myself to eat them everyday and say 'I love bananas'. I still wouldn't like them and I'd be lying to myself and everyone around me.

There is no reason to fear something that isn't real. And you are giving up part of you life your way. Since it is the only one you have you shouldn't waste it because of irrational fear.

And I do my gambling on the stock market. There the odds are in your favor. A casino is a foolish bet. But with stocks, you win way more than you lose.

Please Google "Pascal's Wager." The argument you make is a very old one and has been refuted many times over.
