I have two cats one 6 months the other one year. They are like family to me and I only want the best for them. I've been feeding them wellness dry and canned cat food...which has great ingredients and is very good for them, but also kinda expensive. I'm perfectly willing to pay for the quality and they love the dry food but they seem to be getting sick of the wet food. Here I am paying 20 dollars a case for the stuff and yet they don't eat it it just sits in there dish and grows old. I dont want to feed them crap food like friskies, but I want them to like it. Any suggestions?????? Please help!

I go with Dark Angel. My cats do like the Natural Balance line of canned food and they have it at my local pet discount store for about 75 cents a can. The new producers of the Wellness line ( was originally Old Mother Hubbard) have changed the formulation in the Wellness canned and dry and my cats don't like it as well as the NB now. I also use By Nature's Organic which is high quality meat protein and very little else. It is more expensive at over $1.00 a can. I also use Lick Your Chops which is another good brand. I use very little of the fishy formulations in any of these foods - maybe one can a week for three cats. So that's four brands I rotate around with the cats.

I also make a raw meat diet for them with a supplement powder using organic turkey with turkey liver and turkey heart and organic chicken with chicken liver and chicken heart.

Dark Angel said it all, though some of these foods are only good for the older cat. We use Wellness too, and Paul Newmans, Merricks and Nutro. I buy both the larger and smaller cans, and only roughly mix the dry with the wet food. They also get "Greenies" sometimes for a snack, or organic whole yogurt, and once in a while a few sardines packed in olive oil..

Try Newman's Own, or Fancy Feast Elegant Medley's. The cats I knew went crazy over this stuff- especially the one with salmon/eggs or chicken/eggs

I have had cats for many years and always feed them dry food. It is better for their teeth and some even like it better.

Best bet is to confirm this with your Vet.

I am a firm believer that there isnt a good wet food. They may have some nutrients, but they are high in fat. They are also terrible on animals teeth. I recommend taking that extra cash you spend on their "good" wet food and get them a high quality dry food. Purina and science diet are good ones. The one they are on might be good too. I just dont agree with wet food unless the cat wont eat anything else. Buy them some toys with that 20 bucks instead!

My cat is 8 and he only eats Pro Plan Oceanwhitefish and Tuna flavor. He devours it, then bathes himself when he's done. It stinks but they like it.

We were getting canned cat food from Wal-Mart. Large cans that have the gravy and SLICED beef or SLICED chicken in it.

They come in packs of 4 and cost 94 cents here for the whole pack. I think they were the Special Kitty brand, but they were the cheapest here.

Check at your local Wal-Mart and see if you can find something like that.

These are my top choices of quality canned food for maintenance in cats (for adult cats). Any of them would form a fine basis for your cat's diet, supplemented by dry food, as needed. The bottom line is that the best food is wasted, if your cat won't eat it, so don't be too focused on the numbers. The order is based mostly by my own cats' reaction to these foods, and as we know, cats will sometimes turn up their noses today at yesterday's favorite.
1) Natural Balance Ultra Formula
Like the other foods chosen here, Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance contains no by-products. The top named ingredients are Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Duck, Salmon, Carrots, Brown Rice Flour, and Fish Meal. It has a pleasant aroma, a nice paté consistency, and my test cats dive into it every time it is served.

My cats have eaten Nutro foods from the first, and Nutro remains a consistent favorite. Top listed ingredients: Chicken Broth, Chicken, Chicken Giblets, Chicken Liver, Lamb Liver, Mackerel and Rice. Gluten. Guaranteed analysis (converted to dry matter): protein 45%, fat 22.7%, fiber 4.55%.

5) Wellness Chicken Canned Cat Food
Wellness presents an enigma to cat owners who appreciate the quality of the food. Some cats love it and will dive right in, while others turn their noses up at it every time. It's on the high end of the price range, so I'd suggest buying a can or two, before investing in a whole case. Top ingredients: deboned Chicken, Chicken Liver, Turkey, Chicken Broth, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Vegetable Gums. Guaranteed analysis (converted): Protein 45.45%, fat 27.27%, fiber 4.55%

6) Newman's Own Chicken and Brown Rice
Paul Newman's signature cat foods use Bell & Evans Chicken. These chickens are fed a 100% natural all-vegetable diet with NO antibiotics. The named grains are also grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizer. First named ingredients: Organic Chicken, Sufficient Water for Processing, Ocean Whitefish, Brown Rice, Flaxseed, Oat Bran, Guar Gum, Dried Kelp. Although pricer than most other premium foods, Newman's Own is well worth rotating in your cat's diet.

7) Evolve Natural Canned Chicken Formula
My cats' reaction to Evolve is also an enigma. The food smells absolutely wonderful, and is a nice, juicy paté. They loved it when I first introduced it to them, but recently have been spurning it - a shame, because its ingredients are excellent, and the price is very reasonable. Top named ingredients: Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Turkey, Ocean Fish, Brown Rice, Carrots, Cranberries, Cottage Cheese, and Peas. Guaranteed analysis: Crude protein 45.5%, crude fat 27.27%, fiber 6.82%

Innova, made by Natura Pet Products, has to score high on any list of cat foods. The canned variety is no exception. Merrick Cat Food is considered to be "gourmet" food, and can be obtained in several different flavor combinations. As an example, the Merrick Southern Delight flavor contains Chicken, Chicken Broth, Catfish, Crawfish, Brown Rice, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Zucchini, Fresh Granny Smith Apples, Olive Oil, and other wholesome ingredients. The link offers a variety of eight different flavors in 3.2 oz cans; good for a quick trial.

10) Wysong Chicken Au Jus
This food, which contains only Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken Heart, and Water Sufficient for Processing should not be used as an every-day diet for cats.(Even Dr. Wysong recommends alternating foods for a balanced diet.) However, for cats with high-protein needs, or cats with allergy problems, it is an excellent limited-ingredient diet for stabilizing a cat's digestive tract.
