Heard about this new traffic safety drive in New Delhi (India). The traffic police instead of giving tickets to individuals flouting traffic rules, is instead giving them roses and small gifts (pen sets, road safety books etc.). And is very politely asking them not to do that again. They want to embarass the individual. This is inspired from one of the hit bollywood films. Would rewarding people for flouting traffic rules work? Specially in India, where people believe that "traffic rules" are actually "traffic suggestions"

P.S. : This happened to someone i know, he got a rose and a pen. It is inspired in part from Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent movement.

that's an interesting idea, for sure!
i think maybe more effective would be mounting a large flower on the top of their car or some sort of back windshield sticker that says something overly cheery. perhaps a smiley face button for their jacket. that way more other people would see it and the individual would be more likely to get embarrassed.

Feeling embarrassed might prevent others to violate. However, if the attittudes of the motorists are on the opposite, there will be more violators because they will assume that they will be given gifts.

God no...i think id just keep doing it then, its like a little kid, not getting punished for something thats wrong...they would do it again. Who cares if we get embarrased..that happends everyday.
