Hi everyone. I have an Eagle Tomahawk 10 meter radio that was given to me by a freind. He told me ,that the radio will power up,but there is no modulation to it. Someone told him that I would need to replace the audio chip for it modulate again. Also, is the manufaturer still in business. I need some more buttons for the panel on the upper right hand side that changes the settings. I greatly appreciate any and all help trying to get this radio pssibly back to working. If not, I'll probably end up either throwing it away or using it as a bost anchor (lol). Thanks to all.

If there's a carrier but no modulation, you don't have to replace the finals!

The Eagle Tomahawk is the same as a Cherokee/Northpoint CBS-1000. Any CB shop at a truck stop could probably fix this for you. This radio is more of a CB converted to run 10 meters than a ham radio. Rarely is a radio like this marketed towards hams, but to CBers looking to operate in the illegal "freeband" frequencies.

You have time to get it fixed. 10 meters won't be booming for a couple more years yet. There's been some decent openings out of the middle of nowhere though.

Northpoint is still in business and has a webpage at: http://www.northpointradios.com
They might be able to help you with knobs and buttons.

I don't think so, as far as I know as long as you don't transmit you should be fine. That guy could be speaking out of his rear end. You can use CB Radios without a license providing your not using anymore than 4watts of power and you can use PMR446 0.5watts without a license. Amateur radios require a license. I'd say any other transceiver that isn't a Ham/CB/PMR446 get rid of it, as those can land you in **** just for having them. Get rid off any linear amplifies too as they are illegal. Keep your CB Radios (27MHz) keep the PMR446's The ham radios you might want to consider storing them some place else other than your home until you get your license. Ham radio is a dead hobby and so is CB radio so your probably better off cashing them in on ebay get shot of the lot. It will only land you in trouble and for what? for some old obsolete Ham radios? by 2015 I think Ham radio will be abolished anyway. Its not worth it
