why are there still so many christians who think the world is only 10,000 years old? It seems so preposterous. Like a snowman with a carrot nose and a top hat that can bench-press 400 lbs.

I was raised by Christians and sent to Chrisitan schools. I know it's terribly annoying to meet these "Young Earthers", but what you probably don't realize is that the schools teach it as fact. The students are told that carbon dating is a conspiracy that atheists made up because they're afraid of God. I swear I'm not making this up.

Thank goodness I had the curiosity to check out some REAL books once I hit adulthood, or I might still believe that trite, too. I know it's hard not to be mad at them, but they sometimes can't help it - they're just believing what their parents and teachers tell them.

"I think, therefore, I am." No mental activity is more fundamental than the act of belief. Religion can leverage that concept to label any amount of evidence as sinful to know, learn, teach, repeat, or base actions upon. This is what it is to be human. Until Revelation occurs.

What really should make you step back and be nervous is the number of Quantum Physicists who believe that the universe or any part of it actually does not exist UNLESS they are actively looking at it. And they will show you the mathematics to prove they are right.

If asked about this, the Supreme Being in Her infinite wisdom would likely return this cryptic writing found nowhere in the revered books - - - - - [" :) lol "].

actually many think it's only 6,000 years old. didnt you know that radio-carbon dating is a falicy? and that dinosaur fossiles were just place there by god to test their faith? also it's possible to fit 10 million species of animal onto a single boat!

lololol..so hard to keep a straight face while typing that.
realy tho the evidance for "creationism" does not stand up. sure radio carbon dating is most accurate only to 60,000 years but thast STILL way more than the creationists say the earth is old. and now they're getting into lead-isotope dating whch confirms the very same with a great deal more accuracy.

most christians just make the mistake of thinking the bible is suposed to be taken 100% literaly. when in actuality it makes MUCH more sense that it is mostly parable.

Because most Christians, at least fundamentalists, are taught by ministers who don't understand science, and who discourage them from questioning what they're being taught. Critical thinking is severely detrimental to religous belief.

Christians have historically tried to supress scientific research and punished those who challenge the teachings of the church (Galilleo is a well known example). The modern version of that supression is the movement to teach "intelligent design," a deceptive name for Creationism, and other mythology in science classes.

Added: "Mainworry" - it is amazing the extent to which some Christians go to rationalize their interpretation of Scripture and try to make themselves believe that their theology and dogma are "scientifically" sound. It is also amazing how they try to sound so intellectual, use big words and their "knowledge" of archaic languages, so as to appear authoritative. You just keep telling yourself all that you wrote above, and maybe someday you will believe it (if you don't already).

What exactly do humans know about science and the multi universe systems? Very little if that much. Humans are still in the stone age. They have not even discovered irrefutable proof of the human soul yet.

the scientific world in the time of Galileo thought that his ideas of the earth revolving around the sun were "presposterous", same applies with most of scientific world against creationists today. the small minority proved the majority wrong back then, maybe it will happen again...

Want to talk silly. What if I told you that nothing became something, blew up, and turned into everything? And all this big "accident" became organized?

Jesus believed the literal 6 day creation.

"From the beginning of the Creation God made them male and female..."-- Jesus (Mk. 10:6)

Scripture says God SPOKE all things into existence with His Word:
" By the Word of the Lord were the heavens created, and all the host by the breath of His mouth. For HE SPAKE AND IT WAS DONE; HE COMMANDED AND IT STOOD FAST". (psalm 33:9)

Such a thing would require that a person think for themselves. Why bother seeking knowledge on your own when you can be spoonfed your truth?

Exactly. Science makes religion obsolete. The sooner everyone figures that out, the sooner we can have peace in the world.
