We pay so much money in taxes and yet the roads, and highways are uneven, and have big potholes? For example some parts of Donner's Pass, and the Grape Vine in California? Where is the money going. Many times I drive by and see five road workers watch one worker dig a hole. Something should be done about the roads!

Climate has alot to do with it. Freezing and thawing takes a heavy toll on paving materials. Other than that budgets also have alot to do do with poor roads. Rural roads almost always are worse than city roads because either the smaller governments have less to spend or don't get a fair shake in regards to statewide road funds. Cities have more representation in state governments and thus have more representatives who can get favors in their area.

I too share your frustration about seeing road construction it always seems as if one guy is doing the work while the rest stand around. That is one of the greatest mysteries in life LOL!! Of course that also happens on alot of job locations that are unionized. Not that I am against unions, but that just seems to be one of the drawbacks.

Much of the money here in Calif goes to improvements to ease grid lock. Highways outside of a major city are 2nd or 3rd on the list. We have the same issue on the 101 up past of Ventura.

well ya have to pay for the cost of: labor, materials goin into the pothole(s), cost of fuel for the truck carrying it, it adds up. they only have so much cash in the budget, and the worst roads are higher in priority. resurfacing even 1 mile of road would be extremely expensive after u: ground the road, resurfaced, then roll-flatten the road. asphalt isnt cheap either. concrete would be cheaper, but not as resistant.
