First and foremost, drink plenty of water. Distilled water is best. Avoid soft drinks, even diet drinks. If you drink milk, make it skim milk. Limit your fruit juices also, (eat whole fruits instead) - but fruit juices are better than soda pop.
Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. Eat a colorful mix - red (tomatoes, red peppers, strawberries) green (romaine lettuce, cucumbers, grapes, celery, green peppers, brussels sprouts, broccoli ) yellow (squash, bananas, grapefruit, cantaloupe, cauliflower ). Steam your vegetables and make sure you prepare them healthfully or it defeats the purpose (avoid frying, butter, and salt - use salt free spices and lemon juice for flavor).
Eat lean protein, like fish, chicken, and turkey. Prepare these by baking, grilling, or broiling. Limit beef, and select a leaner cut like a sirloin.
Eat a variety of legumes, especially beans. Black beans, pinto beans, and blackeye peas have a lot of fiber, and are low fat. These are nutrition dense foods, meaning you get "more bang for the buck" calorie wise.
Avoid white rice, choose whole grain brown rice. Limit your bread to a couple of meals a week, and then select a whole grain bread.
Eat a handful of walnuts a couple of times a week, limit butter and margarine, and try to use olive oil when you can.
Finally, don't ruin healthy salads by pouring on high fat, high calories dressings, cheese, and croutons.
Good luck !

Diet is what you eat and drink not a limited time or limited intake consumption of foods. To eat healthily is a matter of education and dedication to you and your overall health.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. When not in season eat frozen. Try not to eat canned foods; they tend to have lost nutritional value during the canning process as well as having preservatives added. When you eat meat try to eat as lean as possible. Why eat something else's fat.
Stay away from any and all carbonated beverages and soft drinks with aspartame (NutraSweet). The acids in these drinks can leech the calcium from your bones and aspartame can cause damage to the nervous system.
Educate yourself. There are plenty of websites that can help you as well as your local library and book store. A web site that I find fascinating is www.glycemicindex.com. It is excellent for choosing the right foods to eat and the right quantities. There is always amazon.com and other sites that sell books.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck

Eat fresh foods
*Lots of fresh vegetables (experiment with which ones you like the best)
*Fresh, lean cuts of meat and fish.
*Whole grains (i.e, breads, rices, oatmeal, etc.)
SLOWLY drop from your diet:
*McTaco Jr.'s (fast food)
*Cakes, pound cake, etc.
*Ice cream (sorry ...)
*Prepackaged, processed foods (HoHo's, Cheezwiz, Snak-ums, you get the idea).
*Soda pop (Ouch! Sorry, again ...)
Again, it's okay to have SOME of these bad things; but only once in a great while.
A healthy diet is a lifestyle choice, and doing radical shifts in your diet will only increase the chances of falling into worse eating habits in the long run.
Good luck, I hope this helps.
