Lost Highway
I'm a rolling stone, all alone and lost,
For a life of sin, I have paid the cost.
When I pass by, all the people say
"Just another guy on the lost highway."
Just a deck of cards and a jug of wine
And a woman's lies make a life like mine.
Oh, the day we met, I went astray,
I started rollin' down that lost highway.
I was just a lad, nearly twenty-two,
Neither good nor bad, just a kid like you,
And now I'm lost, too late to pray,
Lord, I've paid the cost on the lost highway.
Now, boys, don't start your ramblin' round,
On this road of sin or you're sorrow bound.
Take my advice or you'll curse the day
You started rollin' down that lost highway.

There's a song by The Proclaimers on the Shrek sountrack, I think it's called "On My Way" but I'm not sure. It's my favorite because anytime I have to face something hard I listen to the lyrics "I'm on my way from misery to happiness today." I just think anything I go through today will make me a better person tomorrow. I listened to it my entire time through nursing school when I had a test that day, and it lifted my spirits. (It also put me as graduating the top of my class.)

There are so many songs that come to my mind it's impossible to pick just one! How about...
Everybody's talking at me.
I don't hear a word they're saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stopping staring,
I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Thru' the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes,
Backing off of the North East wind,
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

I would have to say either "Lessons Learned" by Carrie Underwood:
And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
Everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night,
Every change, life has thrown me,
I'm thankful, for every break in my heart,
I'm grateful, for every scar
or I really like "Stand in the Rain" by Superchic[k]:
She won’t make a sound
Alone in this fight with herself
And the fears whispering if she stands she’ll fall down
She wants to be found
The only way out is through everything
She’s running from, wants to give up and lie down

Keeping with the military theme...lol
Army of Me-Bjork
stand up
you've got to manage
i won't sympathize
anymore
and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me
you're allright
there's nothing wrong
self-sufficience please!
and get to work
and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me
you're on your own now
we won't save you
your rescue-squad
is too exhausted
and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me

Anything by the Casanova Playboys (can't decide which one is my fav song):
Satire, So Not Sorry or Burlesque...
The songs are incredibly unique - very well written. I love the mood of their album...
If you haven't heard of them - you really should:
