How do i tell if my chihuahua is pregnant? i was feeling her tummy and she started shaking what does that mean? due date should be Jan. 26. Help. she is a little fat but her nipples didn't get big.

The general period of gestation for dogs is 58 to 62 days. Most puppies born before 58 days may not survive. To make sure your dog is on-track with her pregnancy you, of course, will need to know the day or week during which she was bred.Usually, the dog will not "show" until its about 40-45 days into its pregnancy.
Your dog is most likely pregnant when her nipples enlarge and darken in color. Her belly will swell, and she may begin “nesting behaviors”: tearing up and rearranging blankets, papers, pillows and whatever else is available to make a nest for her puppies as their birth nears. Some dogs also go through the doggie version of "morning sickness", spontaeous vomitting when they're pregnant.
If she IS pregnant, and her due date is the 26th, you should be able to take her to the vet now and have her xrayed. The puppies' skeletons will be calcified enough to see on the scan.

The important thing is that chihuahua births are very risky for the mother and you need to have a vet notified in advance should there be a problem. Find a vet that is available to be on call. Many chihuahuas have difficult births due to their small size with some complications that can prove to be fatal.

My dogs due date is also January 26th, shes a aussie mix, her nipples are full and shes really starting to show now, shes going in for xrays tomorrow morning, she will be 46 days pregnant and theywill be able to see the skeletons,If shs only carrying one then she may not show for another week or so. best to see a vet.

The only way to know for sure (unless you wait till she pops them out) is to take her to the vet for an xray or an ultrasound. An ultrasound, however, is difficult to tell how many pups there are, itll just let you know that they are alive. An xray will be better, because it can tell you how many there are and if she will have any problems during birth by comparing the size of the pups to the size of her birth canal!

Well chihuahuas shake anyway, so that would not determine pregnancy. You need to take that dog to the vet NOW. Chihuahuas are so small and fragile that it may need a c-section. Often a Chihuahua will have 1-3 pups because of thier small size and often one of the pups will die. That is why they are so expensive to purchase, if purebred. So , please take the dog to the vet to insure its survival as well as any potential puppies.

Maybe you were pressing her tummy too hard and it hurt her. If she is indeed pregnant, she should start to show about now. Her tummy will get rounder and her teats will swell.

At this point you should be able to go to the vet and get her x-ray'd and a check up. (Then you'll know for sure, and if so how many,approx)
