I'm 17 years of age and I want to move out SO bad! I have wanted to for a long time too. My parents went throught bankrupcy a year or two ago and we have very little money. We have a nice house but thats about it. I made $14,000 as a student in 2006 and I have really nothing to show for it other then a computer that I bought myself and a gamecube. I have about 4 pairs of jeans and some t-shirts, but I find myself wearing dirty clothes often. I have about 6 pairs of socks too. Because of an accident that took place about 3 or 4 months ago with a pump breaking and putting water all over my mattress, I no longer have a bed I sleep in my 3 year olds brothers bed. We have no food ever in the house and if i want something I Pay for it myself. I have even gone out 3 or 4 times & bought about $200 worth of food. Now we could have money but my parents both smoke, mom goes to bingo At least once, sometimes five times a week and never wins. Shouldn't they be doing more then just providing a roof?

well it sounds to me that they are not thinking of the kids 1st.I would advice you to keep your Job Open a checking account and save all the money you can.You will be 18 soon and for now you can save some money and start looking for a place to live find a room mate and share the living expensive. and save more money so someday you ca move outon your own and buy a house.I would do your own laundry so you know you have clean cloths,Might not be a bad idea to wash your brotehrs cloths so he don't get made fun of at school and when you do move out make sure you keep an eye on your little bother so you know he is getting taken care of.Sounds Like you are a smart young man who will do Great in the working world.

Have you tried talking about this with your parents? I honestly would say from what you've said that they're not really thinking of their children's best interest (though I know not everyone is perfect). Talk to them and let them know how you feel and offer suggestions on saving money and getting things paid. Don't tell them to quite going out all together but maybe go out to bingo once a week or every other week to save money. Good Luck!

True you are nearly 18 and will be able to move out.I am concerned about your brother. He is only 3.You need to report your parents to welfare authorities or talk to a school counselor about your home situation. At your age you should be saving up for your own future.Cant you do your own washing? It sounds like your parents need some budgeting advice.Best of luck

Legally they are responsible for providing beds, clothing at least 8 pairs, and all children must have their own beds, blankets, pillows, and your parents are really responisible for food if they cant afford it they need to get on food stamps.. or somthing they have a respoinsiblity to you and your brothers.

if they both have jobs and aren't blowing there money then that shows they are trying. if it really is that bad then you could get emancipated, but you have to have a good reason.
