What causes strep throat?
Strep throat is caused by streptococcal (strep) bacteria. There are many different strains of strep bacteria, some of which cause more serious illness than others. The type of strep that most commonly infects the throat is called group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus (GABS). Other types that can sometimes infect the throat are groups C and G strep bacteria.

What are the symptoms?
The most common symptoms of strep throat are a sudden, severe sore throat; pain or difficulty swallowing; fever over 38.5°C (101°F); swollen tonsils and lymph nodes; and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat. Strep infection may also cause a headache and abdominal pain. Less commonly, strep throat can cause a red skin rash, vomiting, loss of appetite, and a general feeling of discomfort or illness.

The incubation period—the period from when you are first exposed to the bacteria until you develop symptoms—is 2 to 5 days.

You are considered contagious (able to spread the infection to others) while you still have symptoms; you are usually no longer contagious within 24 to 48 hours after starting antibiotics. However, if you do not seek treatment for strep throat, you may continue to be contagious for 2 to 3 weeks even if your symptoms go away.

In general, sore throats are most often caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat does not occur with cold-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more cold-like symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection.

How is strep throat diagnosed?
Strep throat is diagnosed with a physical examination, medical history, and a rapid strep test. A throat culture is sometimes done to confirm the results of the rapid strep test.

How is it treated?
Strep throat will go away in 3 to 7 days with or without treatment. However, strep throat is still treated with antibiotics even if they do not speed recovery. Antibiotics kill the strep bacteria, shorten the time you are contagious, and reduce the risk of complications, such as the infection spreading to other parts of your body. Antibiotics are effective in relieving symptoms of strep throat only if they are given within 48 to 72 hours after symptoms begin.1

Your health professional also may also recommend non-prescription medications to relieve pain and discomfort and reduce fever caused by strep throat.

(The anatomical title for the appendix, vermiform appendix, manner computer virus-like appendage.) The internal lining of the appendix produces a small quantity of mucus that flows by way of the open core of the appendix and into the cecum. The wall of the appendix involves lymphatic tissue that's side of the immune method for making antibodies. Like the leisure of the colon, the wall of the appendix additionally involves a layer of muscle, however the muscle is poorly built. What is appendicitis and what motives appendicitis? Appendicitis manner infection of the appendix. It is notion that appendicitis starts while the starting from the appendix into the cecum turns into blocked. The blockage could also be as a result of a construct-up of thick mucus inside the appendix or to stool that enters the appendix from the cecum. The mucus or stool hardens, turns into rock-like, and blocks the starting. This rock is known as a fecalith (actually, a rock of stool). At different occasions, the lymphatic tissue within the appendix would possibly swell and block the appendix. After the blockage happens, micro organism which by and large are determined inside the appendix start to invade (infect) the wall of the appendix. The frame responds to the invasion by means of mounting an assault at the micro organism, an assault known as infection. An choice conception for the rationale of appendicitis is an preliminary rupture of the appendix adopted by means of unfold of micro organism external the appendix.. The rationale of any such rupture is doubtful, however it'll relate to alterations that arise within the lymphatic tissue, for instance, infection, that line the wall of the appendix.) If the infection and illness unfold by way of the wall of the appendix, the appendix can rupture. After rupture, illness can unfold for the duration of the stomach; nonetheless, it as a rule is restricted to a small subject surrounding the appendix (forming a peri-appendiceal abscess). Sometimes, the frame is triumphant in containing ("remedy") the appendicitis with out surgical cure if the illness and accompanying infection don't unfold for the duration of the stomach. The infection, anguish and signs would possibly disappear. This is exceptionally real in aged sufferers and while antibiotics are used. The sufferers then would possibly come to the general practitioner lengthy after the episode of appendicitis with a lump or a mass within the correct cut down stomach that's as a result of the scarring that happens for the duration of remedy. This lump would elevate the suspicion of melanoma.

strep throat usually leaves pus pockets on your tonsels or back of your throat but not always if you have been suffering with this for awhile I would suggest going in for a strep screening because long term effects of non treated strep can mess with the mitral valve in your heart
