I only know Koine Greek plus some Classical Greek and a bit of Ancient Greek . These languages are very old and I learned them only to study the Bible. My books don't include the word you are looking for.

I am afraid that they told you the truth. It is a vulgar word for vagina. But my name also, Sviatlana, which stands for "light" in Russian is translated to Muni-ra in Arabic, so essentially I have the same "problem" because I have some Greek friends too. But what is wrong with vaginae? They are adorable, aren't they?

It is true. (unfortunately for your communication with less that mature speakers of Modern Greek).

For someone embarrassed about their name, you seem pretty comfortable talking about it

Loudly.
