Because the drug companies contribute so much to the politicians that they can write their own ticket with out supervision

Because of the cost of research to develop that medicine. If you pay one scientist $100,000 a year and it takes him 5 years to develope one medicine thats 500,000 just in salary. That's not counting the cost of material going into the research and that is expensive as well.
