No, they should get longer prison sentences so that they don't have to be in society.

I believe this to a be a yes and no question. Our primary concern is the protection of the well being of everyone in this country. That goes for anyone who might be a potential sex crime victim, and yes, even the person that have commited sex crimes.

The answer yes would be for the fact that we can identify someone that is a sex offender so that we can take the necessary measures to protect our children or families from that person. That is why states have adopted to have an online database of where sex offenders are in the state. So that you can see who the offenders are in your community, what they have commited, and usually if they are likely to commit the crime again.

The answer no to the question would come in to play because of the safety of the offender. Whether we like or not, they are humans too. I do not respect any of the real sex offenders by any means, but I do believe that there are laws established in this country and we should follow them. By going farther than the regular states' databases to identify these people in society, would seriously pose a large safety threat to the offenders.

When someone says the words "sex offenders", everyone automatically assumes that the person is a child molester or that they are some crazed loon enjoys raping people or children. They think that it automatically refers to somene that is very sick the head. In some cases that is very true, but in others it is not. You have to keep in mind that not all sex offenders are the same. Especially the ones the charges of sex crimes against children. The charge itself does not tell you exactly what the offender has done. Like in Texas for example, the charge "sexual assualt of a child" sounds really bad. However, in Texas, that what a lot of other states call "statutory rape." In other words someone was sleeping with someone who was underage and willing. A lot of times it is someone that is 18 or 19 and is making the mistake of sleeping with a willing 16 or 17 year old.

Are they some sick, twisted freak that we can call a pedophile in that case? No, not yet untill they can be evaluated to see if that it is a pattern for the offender to do something like that.

So if you just undisciminately start calling out in society all of the sexual offenders in the country, all you are going to have is people violating the rights of these people, hurting them, or possibly even have some end up killed over it. As much as I dislike and consider most sex offenders on a very low level, they are humans and do have rights guaranteed to them in this country. One of those rights is safety.

Obviously all sex offenders need not be identified other than what is normal in society. Remember to identify the offender may also identify the victim. This may not be for the best.

Some sex offenders who are considered to be predators or violent criminals may be identified if it is warranted. This needs to be well thought out in cases where the convicted are considered rehabilitated and not likely to re offend.

Yes because they do not get better. There is something mentally wrong in their brains, and so they are a danger to society and especially children because they will repeat their crimes.

I feel for some criminals who serve their time and they are still prejudiced against, however, some criminals can be rehabilitated, sex offenders cannot.

For the argument that these people are victims themselves...my own mother was raped and tortured repeatedly by a family member for most of her adolescent life and you don't see her out there molesting little children or committing other sex crimes. Everyone has a choice.

Yes, they should. People knows who they are ,and can watch out for their children, do not want a child to be their next victim. All sex offenders should not only be identified in society but they should also have to wear a sign tattooed on their forehead.

Yes, I do believe they should be identified, why worry about there rights. I believe sex offenders are nothing but garbage in this society. I think there crimes should be a automatic life sentence no possibility of parole because its pretty much proven they cant be stopped and will do it again. I dont know why people think they should have rights like the rest of us.

Absolutely - they should be identified. They are NOT the victims here and others should be warned of who they are and where they reside to help prevent the further destruction of lives, especially young innocent children. I am a parent and would want to know if there was a sex offender in my neighbourhood - not to harrass them, but to be aware of what they are and keep my children away.

To offend and sexually molest a child means that some impulse controls are missing in the person's mind. Once and offender it is very difficult to treat this. People do learn from their mistakes, but this one is a really hard one to learn from because it is a sexual desire. Chances are that offenders were fist victims as youths, and are repeating their learned behavior. It's a tough one to break. Exceptions should be for the 17 yr old boys/girls with the 15 yr old girlfriends/boyfriends. But for me as a parent, I want to know who the sex offenders are so I can protect my child from the sex offender who has that desire to be with a child. Once is bad enough, and by knowing this I am protecting my child and in essense the sexual perpetrator.

Treatment for sex offenses are very, very difficult to treat.

Bob h says they shouldn't be singled out like that. Ya, they should be, nothing worse then a sex offender ruining a child's life. They should be locked up forever, never let out because the greater percentage come out and do it again. But, seeings as how they are let out, if the kids have a half chance of being kept from harm, we need to know if their in our neighborhood.

A problem with that is the term "sex offender" could mean a guy who got drunk and peed in an alley and got arrested for indecent exposure. His life would be hell if publicly identified as an offender.

My problem with this is if the person is considered having served their time if they think he/she is still a problem why are they letting them out? I mean why would you let them out to do more harm? So they've served their time, they are let out rather than kept in and rather than be responsible you put a public tag on them. I agree 300% that we need to protect people from them but then don't stick them back out and hope by putting a tag on them everything is ok. Then there are those who aren't guilty and the stigma will always be with them. I don't know what the answer is but it doesn't seem right.
