Alright folks so here is the deal. My girlfriend left to another state and I'm going to meet here there in a few weeks. She left me her car to sell. The day I go to show it to a buyer the engine starts making this loud noise. I ask my neighbor who's a retired mechanic and he said it's a rod "knocking"!! Just my luck! We can't afford to put one more dollar into this car, since we're both broke and expecting a baby next month. I'm leaving for the Air Force soon and she'll be living with parents so no need for a car now. We just got the car less than 6 months ago and paid 3500 for it. I can't just lose that kind of money. What are my options to get as much of it back as I can? Thanks!

BE HONEST with the buyer. Tell them what you think is wrong with it, then sell it as is. If that is the only thing wrong with it, you should be able to get an OK price for it. Go to kelly blue book (kbb.com) and check for what a fair price is. Just give any buyers a sob story and maybe they'll give you a little more for the junk. I mean car.

Good luck.

Sheesh!! Okay Bud!! I hurt for ya!! I am thinking that you want to know if you can pour something in the oil, some miracle oil additive, that will quiet it down until you get it sold. (May be worth a try though) I honestly never heard of anything that's gonna quiet a rod. If your next door neighbor is a retired mechanic and if he doesn't know, who else would know?
I feel for ya!! Seriously, good Luck!! @8=(

Only option is to sell it for what you can get, or fix it and then sell it.

take it to a real mechanic to diagnose it, it might not be that bad.
