I'm half Italian, and I've been blessed with incredibly nappy, curly red (aka dry) hair. It's shoulder-length right now, but when it's slightly shorter, I can get a half-Afro. I was planning on getting it cut shorter & permed, but I was curious as to whether or not you think it would work or not, that is, as a decent-looking afro. Furthermore, would it still look "professional"? Thanks!

First off your hair is not nappy...its tightlly curled:)...when you wash it put in a leave in conditioner or a little gel (not the gel that flakes) it will give a nice look to your curl. If you decide to cut it...you can cut it real low and have anything from waves to a nice curly fro(do the same conditioner and or gel) depending on the length. Make sure you get a shape-up from the barber to make it look sharp.... then it all depends on what you put on...proffesional to casual.

To tell you the truth, not a lot of people have afros nowadays. If you want to see some, just go to Africa to see the natives. I think your hair would look just fine the way it is. But if you want to get an afro, go right ahead!

i myself think getting it cut shorter will make your hair more afro-like, as in fried, if you decide to perm it as well that will be worse, i don't think it will look professional. You'll might end up looking like carrot top on t.v., you have to probably get your hair relaxed first slowly

First of all it depends on what you mean by professional. If you mean at work than it depends on what you do for work. Basically we would need to know you. I would ask my closest friends and what most of them thought is what I would do. sorry I couldn't be more help but I am more of a visual person and usually need to see people to decide.

Ever tried straighten it with one of those ceramic irons that are so popular. My sister does hers and it makes her hair so silky soft. A perm made her look ridicous and frizzed out more as it grew out.

I will say not to go with the "fro". Get you hair trimmed and permed itailians always look great with permed hair!
