it depends on what kind of extensions you get. there are:
1. glue in extensions-where a weft of hair is glued right to your head-this only lasts like a week and you have to be super careful when washing it, and the way you style it so you don't see the tracks...but if you do need a really quick fix for just the day then it's good I guess. I wouldn't say it was more than $50.
2. sew in- your hair is braided in cornrows, and a weft of hair is sewn to the braid (with a dull curved needle lol) this lasts like 2 wks. I've seen people keep them for 4 but the braids loosen cuz your hair grows, and normal wear and tear. You can wash them a little easier but you have to be careful. Under $100
3. Bonding- the salon I work in uses this company called SoCap which is awesome. These extensions come in soo many colors, and different textures...more than the average. These individual strands are bonded to your hair with a machine that melts the keratin based bond to your hair. keratin is what your hair is made of so it's super healthy and non-damaging. these can be worn in any style-the others can't be worn up. You can even get your hair colored with them in!! They last about 4 months-they are really really expensive, but the people I know that have them are addicted. they range from $1200 to $2000 depending on if you want a full head of them or like partial just to add some volume or something.
Hope I was a help : )

Hair extensions are just swatches of fake hair sewn together that are glued in rows under your own hair. The only problem would be glue allergies or getting a glue that's too strong and gets stuck in your hair. It's been years since I've used them and they've probably gotten better than the old days, but they will make you look like you've got your hair cut into layers. Not a bad thing, but something to keep in mind.

Hair extensions are not permanent at all and will come out or loose after a few shampoos but your hair dresser will be able to tell you how long they'll last. And if done right, they won't be painful.

There are 2 types of Hair Extensions. Ones that glue to your head or clip ons. If you want to take a shower with the glue ones, be gentle with your hair... and no they don't hurt, unless you yank them off your head. The clip on ones, you don't take a shower with. You just clip and un-clip as you please. You can get them done at pretty much any salon. And they are not that much money. I heard they could be as low as $20. Both of these are not harmful to your hair at all.

Strands of hair are attached to the clients existing hair with specially formulated hair adhesives. This method is used for long wearing extensions which can be worn up to 6 months.

i have not had hair extensions but, I've seen it gotten done... i don't think it hurts a lot.,. and i also don't think it will effect your existing hair because the extensions are fake...if you want your hair to be straight and silky?...more thick? if u want a particular selection of how you want your hair to be.. you should use sun-silk, they have certain varietys you can choose from
