I'm so tired of fellow Christians who answer my questions telling me to "turn the other cheek" Here are some examples... taken from one of my questions:

Touche' little one, but we are to be in the world and not of the world. Turn the other cheek and ignore the fools who ask questions such as this, we as Christians are held to higher moral standard.

Oh and 2 wrongs make a right?!?!?Is this your example of turning the other cheek? or acting Christ like? You do more to hurt your faith than you know. You xtians need to wake up and walk your talk. I'm no atheist, however I can't stand the hypocrisy I see in the xtian population.

Paul spent the rest of his life after his conversion defending the Gospel when his Faith was mocked and when he was persecuted. READ YOUR BIBLES PEOPLE! God tells us to defend the gospel. We are never admonished to be doormats!

I do NOT believe in allowing myself to be treated as a doormat; and I SURE don't believe in letting anyone mock my Jesus! When it comes to defending Christianity, I think we should be loving, direct and ferocious, if necessary to the God haters!

It makes me mad when people think we have to be spineless idiots as Christians!

Don't confuse meekness, with weakness.
Jesus was meek, and He got angry, and if it's OK for HIM, then it's OK for His children, if it's righteous anger!

(Let Not the sun go down upon your wrath, don't forget!)

I seem to have come in on the middle of something. All I can say is, "Do not mistake kindness for weakness." I don't know where you ever came up with the idea that we were doormats? Even Christ himself got angry in the temple. And I do believe God also admonished us that we would be known by our deeds, and not our words. Those who make a big deal out of their alleged Christianity do more harm to His name than good, and turn people away from Him rather than near. Words are crap. And God certainly doesn't need defending by mere mortals. What's with the soapbox? Like I said, I came in the middle of something.

Heh. Whoa. Since when did your god pass his power over to you? Are you the decider of "right & wrong"? You sure haven't read most of the Bibb-ible if you think it is alright to act like such a jacka**. I am not a Christian but I have unfortunately been a walking doormat for those like you who spew hatred everywhere. Thank goodness all Christians aren't like you. Your ignorance, as Eric Christmas =) says in Harold & Maude, "makes me want to vomit". I am not large & jolly like Eric, but if I could utilize his facial tics in the film I would. I truly hope you can find some peace and love in this world, but for now, bleah on you.

Sometimes you just have to be content with the fact that vengeance is the Lord's and not ours but, in some ways I agree with you that you must defend your faith but, with Love only. If you can't do it with Love, it is better to leave it alone. God knows exactly what is going on. Consider in Scripture when The Lord looks down on what is happening to his word getting choked up among the weeds and the Angel asks him if he wanted them to go down and gather up all of the weeds and the Lord told them no to let them all grow together and they will sort them out at the end. We can't know why some things are allowed but, for sure they are. Maybe because it makes his grace that much more known. There is value to the teaching of a bad example just as much as a good example and we all know fertilizer is important for every garden. It could very well be he wants you to be this way for just one minute of confrontation with another that leads to their conversion. We will never know but, trust in him. Do not get angry though.

p.s. I would be a door mat, if it meant ones conversion.

That's what makes the core Christian message so radical. The norm is to return like for like and retaliate in kind. Turning the other cheek actually takes a lot fortitude and nerves of steel. A lot of Jesus' pronouncements went against the grain: "It's hard for the rich to get into the Kingdom," "The first shall be the last and the last first," "Go into the closet and pray," "If a man has two coats, let him give one to he who has none." I work in a charged atmosphere of heightened anxiety and there can be a lot of anger and accusations. At first I just yelled back, but things escalated into a minor war and going to work every day was an ordeal and I thought I was getting ulcers about it. But through twelve step programs, counseling, and theological study, I've learned to keep my cool no matter what. If someone else is angry or violent, that is their burden, not yours. You don't have to sink to their level. Say to yourself: "This angry person is deeply troubled and unable to control themselves. How can I defuse and nuetralize their rage? How can I bring them a sense of happiness and peace? In the long run, one can only pity such a disturbed soul."

Not a doormat but understand your point. By the way, Christians should turn the other cheek and not retaliate in the first place.

When I first became a christian I used to get mad like you when non Christians acted like I must be stupid to believe.
The bible says that the gospel seems foolish to non believers. Why are you surprised when they say mean awful things to you? Look what they said to Jesus! They spit on him, they tortured him, they killed him! When ever you are persecuted you are to rejoice! Yes you should defend the gospel but to ask a mean spirited question like that atheist did is not productive. When one acts that mean you are to not say much but pray for them. You need to chill out. And remember what Jesus went through for You!
Some of these people who either respond or ask mean questions may be kids, or teens and some are just morons!

Not everyone who says that they are christian are christian.
Some think you have to think just as they do, wrong.
I am not a christian but a child of God and I don't believe in being a doormat either. Even God will reach a point when his wrath will sweep over the wicked. Jesus even had a point where he became angry at the evildoers in the temple and kicked their butts out.

God tells us to defend the gospel, but he does not tell us to be rude, or trash the opponent.

As a matter of fact, Jesus tells us to witness to others, but if they do not listen to shake the dust off our shoes and move on (Matthew 10:11-14).
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Well when someone does you wrong it may be because they do not know any better or maybe there is something really wrong going on in their lives at the time. This would be the time to either step away or step in and offer help. God wants us to love.
