I know, it is lame, I am not allowed to chat in the office, that's the policy...is there any program out there that let me chat without being noticed? e.g. Like it will open up a MS Word "lookalike" window, and I can chat in there using text only?

Hello Dude,

I know that you are probably going to get a whole lotta junk about this.

As a techie, someone who prevents people from doing what you want to do, please don't.

If you get caught, you will probably lose your job. Not only that, if you are hooked on this chat thing, you might want to get some help. If chat is preventing you from being productive at work, time to get some help.

Yes, there are always ways around thing, however, it is not a good idea.

Tom

precisely. that is like Block Watch people coming outdoors and tattling on every person who might dare play outdoors on their block. The TOS are intentionally obscure so as that the Yahoo! workers can use discretion and eliminate questions that would obey the letter of the TOS yet not the reason. Frankly, something is a violation in case you squint and tilt your head somewhat. If maximum folk prefer to have the skill to ask questions, yet purely some prefer to be vigilante tattletales and the tattletales are triumphing, then that is not community moderation. that is bullying. Yahoo! has never been detrimental to bullying. i've got regularly asked for help with bullying, and that i've got considered my acquaintances ask for help besides. i've got even considered my own acquaintances bully others, regrettably. no remember what happens, Yahoo! accepts (and subsequently condones) the bullying. EDIT: The reporting subject isn't purely an R&S phenomenon. that is around the board. R&S is probable the busiest type, so that is felt harder right here, however the newshounds are everywhere. they're concentrated in busy categories. you will nevertheless submit stupid questions in low-use categories, yet there are extra violations everywhere. i've got been violated in all places.

The open source clients, such as gaim allow you to apply a template to your instant messaging windows. They would make it look more like a regular window then a instant messaging. I have my running with sounds, icons, and buttons turned off. Just remember if there is anyone monitoring the network traffic or visually monitoring the computer screen it will be very obvious what you are doing.

Also gaim allows you to control the transparency, so it would almost blend into the background for anyone not looking at you carefully.

It is better to do work at work, and play at home. Would you really want a doctor in the ER cutting into you then answering an aim message on his blackberry?

There are a lot of websites that you can use as a proxy, but TRUST ME, that if your network admin is at least a little bit good, they will know all about it, and will most likely flag the violation directly to your manager AND the IT Security Manager. If you signed a computer use policy, you can be fired...ESPECIALLY if you work for a company that does homeland security or dod business.

Dont do it. Everything that you type online is cached in a temporary folder and can easily be read.

We used to use winchat in school. We couldn't install IM programs, and net send was too obvious.

start > run > winchat

Click on Connection > Dial, enter in your buddies IP address, then, if he's got the program open too, he clicks Answer when it rings, and you guys can chat. It's a buggy program though, and tends to work sometimes, and not others..

Seriously, I wouldn't do anything at work. They probably have many programs to monitor your activity in many ways.

Sorry, but these days, even small business have security programs.

Good Luck!
