All kids are brats at some point. The army or whatever service applies is just a way to designate said brats.
I think it is an honor to be a military brat.

Okay, first off, only if the parent(s) is/are in the Army are they called Army Brats. If they're in the Navy, they're Navy Brats, etc.
Secondly, it's just a term of endearment in reference to all the kids. Nothing derogatory intended at all.
Edit: jl_jack, only the highest ranking officers (command staff, colonels and above, usually with 15 plus years in the service) had anything remotely like what you mentioned, and even then, there are no 'mansions' on military bases. The base commander's quarters are the closest thing, and even those are simply nice large houses. My father was an officer, and I didn't go toHarvard or Yale, nor did we ever live in anything nicer than a standard two bedroom house on base. Again, you 'share' your unique brand of misinformation.

It doesn't mean they're brats. It just means kids from a military family. Usually means they've moved around a lot, and have learned to survive in an environment that changes frequently. It could also mean kids that have learned to deal with a parent or parents who are gone sometimes, or a parent who runs the household like a military base.

Because they have usually been running around military settings their entire lives. 'Brat' originally meant simply a child so it is used in terms like 'Army brat' or 'faculty brat' (child of a professor who grows up around the university and eventually attends school there).

The term is really just for kids that have a parent or parents in the Army. I have heard the term Military Brat in relation to a kid whose parent(s) were in a different branch of the military. Anyone who uses the term "Army Brat" in reference to someone whose parent(s) isn't in the Army is ignorant, and needs to just be ignored.
