So far the responses have been more even-handed that I have come to expect. (I am staff on several women's issues forums.)
I believe a woman should have the ultimate and binding decison power over her own body, pregnant or not. A zygote, embryo or fetus is not a biologically autonomous person, it is a true parasite.
While the old saws about a heart beat and "46 chromosomes" have been trotted out, they are really irrelevent. A rat has a heart beat, and some who are unquestionably real human beings may have 45 or 47 chromosomes. (They may have severe health issues, but they are undeniably human.)
Neither law nor the often cited Bible consider a fetus to be a legal person. The biblical standard is being born and drawing breath, so is the usual legal one. Try claiming even a full-term fetus as a tax dependent. As for poetic phrases like "before you were knit in your mother's womb I kenw you," these are all retrospective about a person known to have been born.
Biologically, it is accepted that most "conceptions" do not result in live births. A very high proportion of fertilized eggs, or zygotes, never implant and never create a pregnancy. If a distinct life "begins when sperm meets egg" then identical twins could not exist, since they split several cell divisions along the line from that. And even when pregnancy does implant and begin, there are quite a few spontaneous abortions ('Miscarriages" in common use, but medically "abortion" means the end of any pregnancy before it is viable. After the point of viability it is usually called a stillbirth.) God would seem to be the most active "abortionist:" of all.
I have no problem with men or women believing superstition, misinterpretted scripture or bad biology, but they do not and should not have the right to decide for anyone else nor to try to impose their beliefs on society.
And I never cease to be amazed that those who would have governments force pregnancies on women could with that power also force abortions of those they chose to cull.

Sadly, I have to say no. I don't believe in abortion, for the very simple reason that I think that it is murder. Not having Roe v. Wade means that many women would die because they have to go to back alley abortionists. And that's no answer, because it's murder too. It's so sad that there is no easy answer to this question. Religion be damned, this is about human life! That fetus isn't going to be a donkey, a chicken or a fish. It's going to be a human being. ALL human life is valuable and noble.

I feel strongly about this issue. I believe that women should be able to make their own decisions on terminating a pregnancy. It should not be up to a man or the government to tell us what we can or can not do with our bodies. People get raped, they make mistakes, complications can arise, and many other things can happen that would push a woman to terminate a pregnancy. I would like to add that I am NOT condoning abortion as a form of birth control.

I think that this is a decision between a woman, her doctor and her God (if she's a believer). For men to get involved is the height of arrogance, since they can and do leave women once they find they're pregnant and the woman has to raise the child by herself. Plus they often don't pay child support.
If the government wanted to force men to have vasectomies or prostate examinations when they didn't want to, they would create an enormous outcry about how their rights were being infringed!

I'm prolife all the way. I don't think any of us have the right to choose whether we should end the life of another, even it is not sustained outside the mother's womb.
But I think abortion should be accepable if the mother's life is in danger. There is the morning after pill for those who are victims of rape or incest.
As for children with special needs, I have a child with special needs and to think of not having her here would be so insane. She's my little angel and the biggest blessing in my life. Everything in life happens for a reason. Not to say it isn't rough sometimes with her condition, but it is also rewarding and she is so sweet.
This is a sticky issue and I'm stuck in the middle. I have alot of friends who had abortions because it didn't fit into their lifestyle or it wasn't a convenient time to be pregnant. I honestly think this type of abortion should be banned. Abortion should never be used as a form of birth control. Responsible protection is the first step in preventing pregnancy. I have lost a certain amount of respect for those friends that I mentioned about. I do not judge them, but I wouldn't trust them with my life either.
Birth control is acceptable so long as the sperm and egg have not united to make an embryo. Once the embryo has formed, too bad...it's a life, not a thing.
That's just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

Some people confuse pro-choice with pro-abortion.
I myself would have the child (and have faced this issue before and we decided to go with having the child).
That said, I'm glad I had the choice. Doesn't mean I'll choose abortion, but I just want to be able to decide. After all, using contraceptives is a sort of before-the-fact abortion, isn't it?
There are women in situations where either they shouldn't have children (believe me, it's true) or can't be pregnant due to issues with their partners or their health. If they feel strongly enough about it, they'll seek an abortion one way or another anyway.
Might as well make it safe.

It is a very personal ,HARD decision. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT think ANY ONE but the pregnant woman/girl has anything to say about it. It would be her & no one else taking care of the pregnancy/baby. NO MAN should make ANY decision like that. Yes they have a SMALL part in the pregnancy, but it is NOT until AFTER the birth that they would get attached to any child. I don not believe that it should be used as birth control, but it is good to have the choice.

well I agree and disagree with you. Yes abortion is murder, it has 46 chromosomes and in most cases a heartbeat. I just dont understand some people, just going and killing your baby because you were not "READY" or you had unprotected sex. Ok you made the decision to have sex protected or not, and no one is ever really ready to be a parent. I mean I could understand in some cases like rape, or the child have sever problems and it would just be better off not coming into this world. But most of the time it is uncalled for. It is MURDER

I'm sorry, you want our opinion, but if you don't like the answer you will report us? That's not fair, if you want a true opinion, then don't threaten to report.
