My friend has been telling me that he joined the army. For the last 2 months he sais "yeah im goin in two weeks" two weeks goes by and he says oh um 2 more weeks and im going" or some bs like that. Today he was going to leave so he said...but then he told me some story about how they wont take him because he is 1 pound over weight. Is that really true? It sounds like a lie for some reason. i though people get in shape and loose weight in boot camp..and the other thing is that hes not even fat. now he said that he has to wait til Feb to go in. Is this all a crock of bs? or should I believe him? Thanks

A lot of the answers on here are just opinion and not factual. My son joined 3 years ago. He joined on March 30, and didn't leave for boot camp until June 15th. I know of 2 of his friends who joined after him, one joined the first of June and didn't leave till New Years eve. The other waited 3 mo. and then after boot had to wait to get into Ranger training for 3 more months. Clinton closed a several bases as budget cuts, and now unlike the press makes out we have so many recruites you have to wait for a slot to open. I'm not sure the 1# flies but you could always call a recruiter and ask if that would be a reason to delay entry.

Sounds fishy to me. If you're just a smidgen over weight but otherwise fit they'll be quite happy to whip you into shape. Sometimes people do have their ship date delayed by changes in the availability of training cycles, but that many that close together is highly unlikely. If possible contact the recruiter and find out what's going on. If he's actually signed but keeps putting off his own ship date (which you can do within reason but they frown upon) it's possible he's been putting off the drug test trying to get something out of his system.

Lol he'll be fine. There are groups of guys who get into fights and brawls with eachother the first few nights in basic and they'd receive more punishment than an issue with a cell phone. However taking his cell phone wasn't the best thing to do

You do have to be hieght wieght porportioned. I'm joining the Army and they wouldn't even send me to MEPS because I was at 43 BMI and I was suppose to be at 42% BMI. You sign your contract and reserve your job at MEPS. If he is just 1 pound over weight and he was suppose to leave that day...I think he is pulling your leg. He could sweat off 5 pounds by sitting in a sauna...1 pound they could get a waiver for. 1 pound won't set him over in the BMI %.

Afraid your "friend" is pulling your leg with a whole lot of BS. The US Army will NOT take just anyone. First, you
WILL HAVE a High School Diploma or GED, Be physically fit, Have a IQ above 100.

probably bs. there's a slight possibility that it's half true. he could have made it to meps (where you sign your name and give your oath) and they found something medically wrong with him. since you say he's not fat. it's probably something he's embarrassed about, like an std or a failed drug test. but that only accounts for the latest story. as for all of the, "in two weeks" stories... i don't know... maybe he can't read a calendar.

Your friend failed the physical required for entry into the military. If you are overweight, you will be given a tape test to determine your body fat %. If you fail this, then the doc will not clear you for military service. His entry into Basic will be delayed until he can pass all physical requirements. If you want to help out, then coax him into exercising and tell him to lay off the fatty cakes.

you can enlist under the Delayed Entry Progarm.. and take up to a year before you ship off. Also, yes, you can be denied if you show up the day you are supposed to ship and be even one pound overweight.

But something tells me.. it's a load of bull. ask him what his MOS is.. if he gives you some crap about not having one.. he';s most likely not telling the truth.

It's utter BS. Today, the army will take just about anyone, within reason.
