Eukanabas first 5 ingredients are:
Chicken
Chicken by-product (bones, feet, intestines, and diseased infested chickens)
Corn Meal
GROUND GRAIN SORGHUM
ground whole grain barley

And if you know, that is bad for dogs. www.dogfoodzone.com will break down the top 10 dog foods for you, go look at it

Here's the 2006 list from the Whole Dog Journal. These are highest quality foods. Most of these are not carried at large chain stores but you can usually find them at small pet stores, feed and grain stores, etc.

As long as the food says that it is for puppies it is OK. If it does not say so then no because the ones with puppy written on them have all the vital ingredients that they need while growing. Ask your local vet or even your pet shop should know what is OK to give your new puppy. The eukanaba should not have been bad for your dog unless it was an adult one. That is a top brand of dog food that many vets recommend and i would as well apart from the fact that it is really expensive. Good Luck and perhaps do a bit more research.

Dogs can thrive on a lot of commercial foods out there and there are many good brands to choose from. Eukanuba is good for a lower costing brand that is readily available, but certainly it's preferable if you can afford it to get a better quality of food. More expensive is NOT necessarily better. I don't know anyone who feeds their dog "Life's Abundance" but it sounds like a good food.
Some of the holistic lines of food are for all stages of life because of the high quality of ingredients. Some say they are for all stages and are healhty but they are not. Avoid foods with beet pulp and molasses in them. Those are not good food or fiber sources for dogs. Soy is also bad.
Some good foods that vary in price are: Nature's Recipe, Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten, Flint River Ranch, Authority Oven Baked. What kind of puppy do you have? Some brands are created to promote healthy growth for large breed puppies. For example some have Glucosamin and Chondroitin in them for breeds like German Shepherds.
Here's an excellent diet that isn't even commercial dog food:

Takes a bit more work but very very healthy for dogs.

What kind o f dog you have and how old your pup is makes a HUGE difference in what you feed her. Stay away from Eukanuba and Science Diet...things of that nature. One of the best dog foods you can use is Innova or Wellness. They have puppy foods.

Remember that if you have a large breed puppy, you should often times feed a large breed puppy food or an adult food to slow growth. Rapid growth can cause joint and bone problems later in life (like hip dysplasia).

Good luck with your new pup and I'm glad you're taking the time to do research!

I've never heard of Life's Abundance. Always feed your dog the best food you can afford. It will keep your puppy happy and healthy better than the cheap brands. I'm curious though....why is the Eukanuba not good for her? As long as it's a puppy version it should be fine. If you are still in doubt call your local vet's office - they always have good recommendations on foods.

Is the food an "all stages" food? If so, then yes, it should be fine for a puppy. It should have feeding instructions ranging from puppies to adult dogs. If it's not, that can be okay, too. Honestly, it isn't totally necessary to feed "puppy" food to puppies. Usually, they call it puppy food because it has more protein in it, which puppies do need. But if you choose to feed that particular food to your pup and it does not have feeding instructions for puppies, just feed according to weight, and probably a little extra to make sure the pup gets the protein that he needs while he's still growing and developing.

I'm not sure where the info about Eukanuba came from, the Eukanuba puppy kibble is highly recommended by vets and dog breeders / trainers. I feed my two pups on it daily and they love it and are growing nicely - at the last vet check they were pronounced extremely healthy.
I have never heard of life's abundance, however if its not a puppy formula I would not be giving it to a dog under 12 months old.

Cute puppy! I use Pedigree for puppies. My pups like it very much! I don't know about the Abundance brand for pups though. I would stick to what you know for now! I don't think it matters if its the best I think it just matters if its good for her and she likes it!

Hope this helped :-)

I prefer Innova Evo, it has more meat in it, and is formulated for all life stages, and all breeds.
