Yes, I am a very firm believer in genetics. Its proven in some cancers the rate of you getting the particular kind goes up if your mother, grandmother etc have had the cancer.
I know will get bashed on this answer concerning smoking, and I am a non-smoker, but being in the medical field of course I know the harm it does......BUT.....I see it all the time where family history has proven out time and again that its the genetics of a family where cancer comes from....and again in your questions from a doctor why would they ask what members of your family have had cancer and what kind? they too believe it, they are researching it as we type. Will pray for your family,

I have cancer on both sides of my family as well. Different types of cancers for each, but 4 mortalities so far. To answer your question, YES, cancer will tend to affect a person with a family history of it more than a person with no family history of it. Watch yourself, go for regular physicals.

Cancer can definitely go from one generation to the next in certain families.

I know one family who has a history of thyroid cancer in females. The males are completely unaffected and show no signs but are carriers and the females are affected at a very high rate.

I've also heard of other various genetic-linked cancers including prostate cancer in men and lymphoma.

Cancer does tend to run in families. There are certain types of cancer that have a genetic componant to them. And there are other types of cancer that do not. So basically, certain types of cancer run in families and others do not.

Yes, it does run in the family. Therefore you need to get yearly mammograms if there was breast cancer in your family, regardless of age, yearly colonoscopy if there was colon cancer in your family, again regardless of age. And if there was ovarian cancer in your family you need to get tested asap.
