its very obvious if you simply take a small lock of hair and study the strans. you can see that the actual miniscule little hairs have somehow manages to split in half at the bottom. if you have dark hair, it makes things even easer, as the most of the tips will often look white. also, from a distance, the hair looks a little frayed, weak and frizzy towards the bottom. split ends are easy to avoid by getting you hair trimmed at least once every two or three months.

Hi, If you pull out a couple of hairs you can see the split ends. The end of the hair(not the end near the scalp) will be split with two ends instead of one.

Symptoms of split ends are HAIR BREAKAGE so make sure you cut them every 4-5 weeks and also do a deep conditioner.

Dried hair where the ends split in half. Somtimes split in thirds or fourths.

Your hair may become frizzier. Also, if you look at your hair closely enough you may see that the ends look whiter (it's just it shining in the light) and you'll see two small strands of hair sticking out of one.

It also may become harder to comb in the mornings, because it may become more tangled --due to the little extra end of hair snagging on other ends of hair.
