I know I shouldnt be asking I should know but its really a curious kind of thing. I have 3 children ages 8yrs., 3yrs, and 1 yr. My 8 year old did at 2 yrs and my 3 yr old went straight from the crib to a twin. My 1 yr is in question. LOL

Well, Toddler means when a child starts to walk, usually between one and two. They migrate from a crib then because they are more mobile and can get out of the crib and walk around. I'd say if your toddler is actively walking and getting around, it is time for a real bed. Just start out with a small one with protective foam borders so he won't fall out.

My kids didn't have toddler beds. My first son had a bed with guard rails at ten months (he was an early walker/climber), and my second son was in the bottom of a bunk bed with guard rails at a year. If you are concerned about the child getting injured from being in a crib (climbing) then it's time to change beds.

i put my now 24 month old in a toddler bed when she was 21 months old. She loves it. of course she fell out a few times but she got the hang of it. I didn't have a choice though, I just had a baby and the baby needed her crib. I would have kept her in there until she could get out on her own.

My son was able to get his leg over the crib rails when he was 18 mos. I put him in the toddler bed then as I was afraid he would climb out of the crib. He did fine. You can put a baby gate in his bedroom door so he cannot walk out at night.

When my daughter was two, we moved to a new house and bought her a toddler bed then. However, she refuses to sleep on her own(I am gearing up for a stand off on this), and is now three, and big for her age, so I really wish that I had just gone with a twin bed.

We put our son in a twin "Big Boy Bed" at 2 years. Like the other lady that answered, we also put a gate at his door to keep him from getting out. The gate is down now and he stays in his bed all night. He's become quite a good sleeper in the big boy bed which is pure heaven for this tired Mommy.
best of luck to you, take care.

We just put our 16 month old in a big girl bed. She transitioned very well. Sleeps much better in it than she did in the crib. She gets in her bed during the day and feeds her baby dolls. She lay her dolls on the bed and pats them like its bed time.

Now could be good they are still young an you can change any habits that they have now. But what you can do to help ease her into the bed is when you lay her down sit in the room until she goes to sleep like sitting in the floor or in a chair just to comfort her until she is completely comfortable with it.

I put my son into a toddler bed at 15 months or so...you mostly have to make sure for one, they cant climb out of their crib, if they can, youre better off having them in a bad so they dont get hurt. also make sure your house is verrry thouroughly childproofed in case the child climbs out of bed one night without waking you. hope it helps!

I don't think that you should consider what everyone says about age. I think that as a parent, the most important thing should be your child's comfort and safety. I'm sorry that this sounds more like an opinion, but I hope it may help.
