Well, what exactly do you mean "worked"?

When I went on a low-fat diet I did it because my doctor said that he'd like to see my cholesterol come down from 200. I decided to look around and find the best low-fat diet that I could, and so I came across Dean Ornish's diet. I though Id give it a try, and did for a year, though I didn't keep it quite as rigorously as the book said I should

At my next physical, though, my cholesterol and triglycerides had dropped and my doctor was rather pleased with my condition, so I kept it up. I went even further, starting to do everything that the book said as well as started running, and at my next physical, my weight and cholesterol numbers had dropped even further. My doctor then said that my test was so good that I wouldn't need a cholesterol test for another three years.

Well, three years went by, and my numbers were even better this time, with my LDLs 'way down and my HDLs 'way up (105 and 55, respectively) and I have kept off the twenty pounds that I lost during the initial time on the diet and lifestyle I had adopted. It hasn't been hard to keep them off, either. I started out not heavy, just about five pounds over my "ideal" weight, but I dropped from 160 lbs to 140 lbs and that's where I have stayed. I run 20-30 miles a week, I have energy I didn't have before, I feel great, my doctor's happy, I'm happy, and I don't miss the fat that I used to eat.

I did for a while, but after a few months I realized that I didn't miiss it any more. I don't miss meat, which I don't eat at all, not even fish, and my diet is quite satisfying. This afternoon I fixed a butternut squash bisque (with plain soymilk), a roasted sweet potato side, a quinoa-tomato-lentil risotto, and baked marinated tofu. We were quite full and satisfied at the end of dinner, and the only fat in the meal was what was in the tofu, which isn't much. I've had meat-eating friends pleased with what they've had at my table, so the dark warnings you hear about a vegetarian diet being boring or bland just isn't true. I've been doing this for years, now, and enjoy it.

My Body Mass Index is 21, so I'm not scrawny, but with all that I eat I'm not anywhere near an heavy and unhealthy weight, either.
I even have fewer colds than I used to have. Can't explain that one, but there it is.

So I would say that my low-fat diet works very well for me. My doctor agrees.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

yes and no, i reccomend for everyone just a low cal diet, it's so easy and looses weight fast. I personally try to consume about 1500 to 2000 calories a day, eat healthy snacks that are easy to make, like:

*chopped cucumbers with italian dressing fat free
*ritz crackers with fat free cream cheese witha tomato on top
*Buy 100 calorie packs, they are pricey but very delicious
*chopped apples
*pretzels (low sodium) dip them in peanut butter
*etc.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Never.

I do have great success with low or no sugar and high fiber. Fat intake does not seem to make a difference for me one way or the other.

When I was younger, it worked for me when I did not eat more than 10 grams of fat a day along with a work out regimen
