The question (much like many others on here) is rather subjective. My opinion is that it is NOT OK to miss your mother so much it hurts. It would appear to be a level of insecurity on your part that will not allow you to properly function without her presense. There is nothing wrong with missing her but you need to learn how to let go. Do not let it comsume your life. I know this can sound a bit harsh but I am trying to tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

Of course it's ok to miss your mom. I have a similar situation. My daughter and her husband moved across the country shortly after he went into the military. My daughter and I are also very close and I miss her terribly. She now has three beautiful children and I haven't been able to see her in the past three years!
We used to travel out west in our motor home where we spent six months with them every year. We did that for six years until it just got too expensive.
We talk almost everyday on the phone but it isn't the same. Sometimes I miss her so much I cry also, I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of.
I'm sorry you are unable to move out to be with your mom, she'd probably enjoy having you near her. Wish I had some great advice for you that would make you feel better. I think as long as you talk often and share things with each other it helps.
I'll keep you in my thoughts, God bless you.

It's okay I'm really close to my mom too, yet I live far away from her. We talk on the phone everyday I found the best thing to do was to get involoved in other things rather than dwell on missing my mom , try it and see if it helps.

It is more than o.k., it means that you have a really great Mom, and she did her job properly.
Is there any way that she could move closer to you?
Best wishes and enjoy your Mom.

It's okay to miss anyone so much it hurts, especially your mom. Long phone calls are nice...letters emails...pictures. It's sweet that you were so close to your mom...don't make it a "were" situation. You can be close to your mom from wherever you are.
