Referring to something like jump-gates, worm holes, and the like...yeah, it would be nice to travel across space that way, but we have a long way to go to developing that sort of technology.
The technology I liked in reading were the stepping disk used in Larry Niven's Ringworld books.

There is just two problems with the question.
1, to accelerate your atoms to a speed faster than light, and then re assemble them in an instant would be physically impossible.
2, there is no such thing as a portal, it is a figment of a science fiction writers imagination!
