The best place to begin on the road to a healthy mouth is getting a dental checkup. Yes, brushing at least twice a day and flossing once a day is a necessity, but seeing your dentist (and hygienist) will help determine why your gums are swelling. A lot of times swelling is caused by not removing plaque (food debris/bacteria) from the teeth and gum area, but it can also be caused by tartar (calculus) buildup, or health related problems (such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, medications, etc.) Tartar buildup is mineral deposits above and/or below the gumline that must be removed by a dental professional. Like a splinter, left alone it will cause swelling and pain, but once it is removed, healing will begin. If you have a medical condition, your dentist/hygienist will be able to help identify a personal solution for your teeth and gums. With oral concerns, the list could go on and on, but remember that studies show that what goes on inside your mouth also shows a lot with what goes on with the rest of your body! If you have any questions, please email me, as this could become a lengthy discussion :) Good luck!

I have a solution for you. Of course I trust that you floss everyday, if not nothing will help. Ok once you have flossed and brushed, use a waterpic dental appliance. I have been using one for the last month and my gums are far yes far less sensitive and are much better. It is unreal how much stuff comes out from your gums even after you brush your guts out, this stuff causes tooth decay and gum disease. I also use Biotene toothpaste and mouth rinse. Do this and you will notice a much healthier mouth. So clean you can eat through it.

Use a 'Sonicare' toothbrush and 'Colgate Total' toothpaste. After you brush put a little vegetable oil on your fingertips and lightly message your gums. Get ample Vitamin C in your diet. Take a supplement called Co-enzyme Q10 and eat some peanuts every day (they strengthen your gums).

Floss, floss and floss again.
Keep your floss every place that it is handy so have more than one.
Also brush your gums when you brush your teeth.
Buy a new toothbrush about every 3 months
Drink lots of water as the choice drink
