Yes. This is what's commonly referred to as "false labor". A lot of women head to the hospital right away thinking it's time, but labor slows or stops completely and they get sent home.

On the bright side, she's very close! The contractions just haven't gotten regular yet. Things that can speed labor up are walking and having sex.

Absolutely, once I was in labor a week before the child was born. I had contractions for a few hours. The doctor told me this baby is going to be born tonight. Everything stopped and a week later the baby was born. There was an umbilical cord problem which they discovered when the baby was trying to be born again. It was holding the baby back. I had an emergency delivery. The baby was born blue and had to be resuscitated.
