I have to tie up bags a certian amount of times turn on and off lights a certain amount of times . I think that if I dont do these weird things and these are just some Examples then something bad might happen . I know it wont and sometimes I can control myself and not do it but it will still bug me . This is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder isnt it . ?
I realised the other day that ive done it since I was a teenager Am I mad or something , do any of you do stuff like this , why do you do it ? And what happens if you dont?

No honey your not mad, a lot more people that would care to admit suffer from strange behaviour. I have it and my 'bug' is germs, i have it under control now because i worked out what the trigger was. Can you think back and figure out what started yours? Mine was my grandma who was a little unhygienic! My mum would make us wash our hands when we got home from her house which made me think that everywhere else was full of germs. I believe its all about control because mine gets worse when im stressed, i think with me its like i cant control anything else but if i keep things clean everything will be ok. Its nothing to be ashamed of but you do need to go see your doctor. These things can spiral so bad and you lose control of everything, the best thing i ever did was see a counsellor. She made me realise that my fear wont harm me or anyone else and i am so glad i sought help. Make an appointment and dont worry about being mad! its all part of todays society you know? Yes, you most definitely have OCD. I'm sorry. I have it, too. It actually affects much more of the public than you may think. Why do you do it? OCD is traditionally brought on by a traumatic event in your life. Not necessarily, but for me, it was my mom dying from cancer when I was 11. It occurs because of a hyperactivity in a part of your brain, which, amongst other things, infuences decision making. Technically, nothing happens if you don't do any of those things. But you will feel anxious. If it's only a couple little things like that, I would just work on not doing them and learning to cope with the anxiety. You will learn the anxiety decreases over time. If it's escalated to other things, you may want to talk to a professional before it interferes too much with your life.

Yeah i get it as well. I have to check i have put the car hand brake on about 3 times and stuff like checking i locked the front door. It can get very anoying.
I think in me it stems from working too hard at work and probably being a bit stressed out, resulting in lack of concentration and forgetfullness. When i check things i have always done them but i just didn't remember doing them, hence the checking. Mine clears up when i am less stressed.
Try relaxing, or identifying if and why you have any stress.

It does sound like OCD. But I think that maybe there are different types...levels? I can understand how you feel. I have to touch the end of a certain bench, make sure all cabinets are closed, make sure my clothes tags do not show. I think that probably is some sort of OCD. But does it really need to be treated. Probably no. Does your actions cause any real problems in your life? If not, Don't worry so much about it.

Sounds exactly like OCD. Nothing will happen if you don't do these ritualistic things--nothing except that you'll think about it over and over again all day. Dwelling obsessively on something is another feature of OCD. Welcome to the club. MANY people have some form or other of OCD--some mild, some not. Even hypochondria is a form of OCD. (It's obsessive thoughts about health and illness...) Certain anti-depressants like Zoloft and Prozac can help control OCD.

Does having, what you think is OCD, also prevent you from using apostrophes? Sorry - joke. ;-)

Remember - what you might think is OCD can also be habit - like - checking the front door before you go to bed or making sure your books are all lined up in size order or the same for shoes - all placed side by side in a particular order. While you think this is OCD, it could be just your daily habit or particular way of doing things that is different to other peoples.

I took a psychology course in college. It sounds like ocd. You can go to a psychiatrist & they can help you deal w/ it, try to help you to control it. It's ocd if it interfers w/ your life every day. Since you have controlled it before, you have a great chance at overcomming this. You may beable to learn to control it on your own, but if not, seek help. You're not mad, it doesn't mean your crazy, it just means you have an obsession.

I have OCD. It's a major personality disorder that affects lots of aspects of daily life. You can't stop it just learn to live with it and channel it into less extreme forms. Trial and error is the only way really.

yes it is OCD..i had it mildly when i was a teenager too..i used to have to say goodnight to everyone in my head everynight and if i didnt say it properly or missed someone out i thought they would die..
its usually triggered by something that has gone off in the past etc. it could be something so small but it was enough to set off your OCD
i got over it by forcing myself not to say it to prove to myself that it wouldnt happen, and i'm pleased to say it never did!
this was YEARS ago and still nothing bad has happened..i'm now totally over it and pleased i could do it.
ask yourself those nights you didnt turn the lights on and off a certain amout of times or didnt tie so many knots,did anything bad happen each time?? no?? there is ur answer.
it might not be that simple for you but thats what i did. it is worrying i know,but its just your mind....please dont let it control you anymore than its already doing,if you cant get over it please get help.
