It's illegal to sell wild game in a store or restaurant, so the only deer meat you will find is farm raised. There simply isn't very much demand for deer meat in stores, so there aren't many deer farms.

Unlike elk, buffalo and ostrich, there are not many deer farms .Though you can special order from a meat market, or most meat depts. at your local grocery store. Deer and antelope also have a more gamey taste than elk and buffalo due to what they eat.

It is sold in a few stores where I live. In order to be sold in stores the meat has to be handled according to health regulations after the animal is killed and also packaged according to regulations.

It's venison and it's sold as beef jerky around here. They have these wild game dinners where all sorts of meat are tasted. I read about one where they served frozen mastodon meat that came out of a glacier.

There is plenty of opportunity for venison farms - but some people think that deer are too cute and shouldn't be raised for food.
