Well, eating isn't a government sanctioned activity. And the government can't really ban gay marriage, they can only ban marriage liscenses for same-sex couples. People have different reasons for this. Mine is simply that "marriage" is something between a man and a woman by definition. But I do support "civil unions". I'm not religious, so I don't care about sin.
If there was government sanctioned gluttony, I would be against that too. Especially if they called it "marriage", because that's just silly.

You're right, they are both considered sins in the Holy Bible (according to the majority of Christian followings). However sexuality is more taboo (what people are uncomfortable with) than the topic of food consumption.
I admit, this is an assumption on my part which I can't prove at the moment more then stating the following: People are more comfortable discussing what they eat and how much then who they sleep with and how often. Get it?
Also homosexuality is fairly new in its open acceptance when compared to gluttony. People have been fat for years, as a matter of fact at one point it was a status symbol indicating wealth. However being gay and even moreso gay marriage has yet to be as widely accepted.

I believe it is easiest to say it this way. The fight to ban gay marriage is not just coming from the Christian front. Many people do not believe in this life style and do not wish to see it brought into the public light or receive the rewards of a traditional marriage.
In fact I am surprised gay people want to have a monogamous relationship. Or that they wish to have anything to do with a traditional lifestyle? It baffles me to no end.
Now as for the gluttony. Again we are not speaking of religion here but politics and there is much money to be gained by gluttons of all kinds. Then there is all the big food group lobbyist and the greasing of hands. So you will see very little in that area.
Finally, yes anything that pulls you away from God is sin. There are no shades of evil in Gods eyes. He alone will judge and make the final call on all things. Which is lucky for us as you have already noticed we tend to put things on scales. (pardon the pun)

why not ban sex before marriage? why not ban threesomes? those are sexual acts that the bible says not to do? well you know what, gay people love each other, if gay people want to get married they should be able too, i mean i'm agnostic but i still want to get married(the gay kind) not because of god or anything but because gay couples deserve the same rights as everyone else, so that they can have life insurance and see each other in the hospital but they are denied it because people just wont accept that gay love is love too, you need to watch brokeback mountain, i personally didnt like it because of the ending but it should show you about love... real love not getting married and then cheating and sleeping around and getting divorce, you wanna know something else? the states with the lowest rates of divorce are the ones where gay marriage is legal, except for navada but thats because of vegas marriages...
“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals, and 362 to heterosexuals. This doesn't mean God doesn't love heterosexuals, it's just that they need more supervision.”

Why do so many Christians seem confused about this? Yes! Gluttony is a sin according to the bible. I'm not a Chrsitian, and even I know that! Isn't that basic Sunday school info?

It depends on which group of people you are referring too. Our group, and me personally wants to ban gluttony, as well as smoking, drinking liquor, gambling, etc. I know majority will not agree with us.
Western people are mostly guilty of the sin. But in a third world country like ours, most people are hungry. Why not give us your excess foods? You dont commit sin but instead, help the poor people.
By the way, our group is Couples for Christ Catholic Community. We accept and welcome gays. Being a gay is not sin, but its your act that make you a sinner.

Gluttony may be one of the Seven Deadly Sins, but I've never heard it referred so much to overeating as over-possessing, if you see what I mean. In the Scriptures the term "glutton", rather than being a person who overeats, seems to refer to what we would call a miser. /Avarus/ (AH-wah-rus), the latin word for miser, is the root for our word avarice, which, when carefully considered, really is the same thing.
The people above are probably also right, that the fat, straight people in church don't want to make themselves feel bad, but that's corruption of the church. We can't bend God's law to our own devices, it means what it means.

gee, gluttony is mentioned in the bible as a sin. However, I've never seen any mention of gay marriage in it. Has it changed since My bible was printed 50 or so years ago?

You're comparing apples to oranges here. We can't ban gluttony anymore than we can ban alcoholism.
As to why people want to ban it, there are many answers. Just as people have opinions about whether drinking should be legal at 18 or 21 or not at all; just like people have strong opinions on handguns; just like people have strong opinions on abortion.
Blessings to you!

I think this is because most people are not gay and so they think it is wierd, and because they wouldn't enjoy being gay. But everyone loves eating, so even though they're both sins, people are really subconciously being selfish and ignoring the truth... which is what you just said. Anyone who is religious should already understand this... but it seems only people like you and I do.
